Holy Ravioli!!! That was so stinkin' hard and so stinkin' beautiful at the same time. :)

* A quick note before I begin (before any of you think I did better than I did): There was only 17 women TOTAL who were crazy enough to pay for this crazily satisfying punishment! :)

Here are the highlights (and I am not checking for typos so BEWARE ... I am pretty tired):

THE SWIM: I have never felt so panicky in my life!!! Even though I knew the swim portion went by gun time I lined up towards the back and the side in hopes of avoiding getting my body trashed by others. Should have gone to the VERY back! About 200 meters into the swim I got kicked HARD right in the nose. So hard that I thought I was going to pass out. I felt so dizzy and yet got kicked over and over again. At one point some guy swam directly on top of me. I went completely under and panicked a bit because he wouldn't let me back up (there were people on both sides of me). Stupid boy!!! Long story short though: there were times when I loved the swim ... others times were I thought I would not make it!! It took me much longer than I thought I would. I think my swim itself was about 41-43 minutes. My transition at that point was about 10 minutes!!!!!! Partly because I was so dizzy that I had a hard time getting my wetsuit off and getting everything good to go for the bike!

THE RIDE: The uphill never ended!!!! Over 3600 feet climb. The scenery was insanely beautiful!!! Red, orange, yellow EVERYWHERE!!!! My goal on the bike was to go sub 3 hours. I was thrilled when I rode it in 2:42:xx. The best part was that I only fell ONCE (with only about 1.5 miles to go). I did come out of my clips a few times though. Sometimes intentionally other times to just avoid disaster. I saw a lot of nasty falls. I feel very fortunate to have had my only fall on some nice soft dirt! The worst part (for me) was that my gum came flying out of my mouth around mile 7 and got stuck on my right brake. Before I knew it was there I had smeared it on there good. So every time I braked my hand felt nasty!!! :)  A very tough ride but it I felt so amazing having conquered my fear!!!

THE RUN: This is where I thought I would KILL it!!! NOT SO MUCH!!! About 1000 feet of climbing on what felt like zero glycogen. I wanted to run fast but I absolutely could not. Every part of my body was exhausted! The run was 6.3 miles (last year it was only 5.9 so I was hoping for that but they changed the course a bit). Aid stations at about every mile. I had not run the course but had thought that I could do it in about 50 minutes. Ummm WRONG!!! My time was 1:04:xx. At a 10+ pace you would think that people would be passing me everywhere. Nope. We were all just dead tired!!! I have no idea how some of the men pros ran it in 43 minutes. INSANE! The last couple of miles were mostly downhill. That was a nice gift!!! :)

FUN to have Ry, the kids, Annie and Nic (and their kids) to cheer me on!!!

I am so glad that I did this. It was so out of my comfort zone but I did it. I love that feeling!!!

For my 1st place in my AG they gave me a nice visor and a box of PowerBar gels. Cool!!! :)

WaHOOO!!!! CONGRATULATIONS Teenah sistah!!! THAT IS SO SO SO SO SO AWESOME!!! YOU DID IT!!! YOU CONQUERED this beast! Wow!!!! I am so impressed! You are tough, strong, beautiful and amazing! Sorry I wasn't able to come cheer you on! :(

The swim sounds SCARY!!! How in the world to get kicked and pushed under like that and survived!???!!! WOW, you're a fish!!! Dang that stupid boy!!!

I'm so so so happy your mountain biking skill and training came through with flying colors today, literally, only one minor fall is terrific! :)

GOOD JOB running the mountains with zero glycogen! You are amazing! SO SO SO SO PROUD OF YOU!!! Hope you celebrated with some yummy food! LOVE YOU! :) :) :)

Teena, you are stinkin' amazing!!! Congrats on an awesome victory! You deserve that 1st AG prize! I am SO proud of you for even having the guts to do it!

I hear ya on the swim, it can get crazy scary sometimes. I prefer when they start in waves so it isn't SO crowded! Spudman was the worst swim for me, even with waves there were just too many people climbing over everyone else.

Isn't that run feeling just crazy?!? you can NOT explain how your legs feel!! It was just a bike ride and you think you should be fine, but your legs are GONE...like GONE! I felt the same way at the half IM run. I thought for sure a 2 hr half would be easy peasy...HA! funny joke. I can't imagine having to run after a hard mtn climb UPHILL, then having to run the trails!! Hard core I tell ya...hard core!

Congrats again on an awesome race Teena! You're a total rockstar in my book!

I second Smooth and RAD!! You are a total rockstar!! Nice work Teena. I loved the post. I hope you're sleeping like a baby (and ate some yummy food tonight.)

T NA NA - 1000 commando points, you are now a Tri Geek - the swim, never easy, you toughed it out, funny, you thougt the bike would be the sacriest, not so, the swim is the scariest. great work, see you at the STG Half Iron Man, you are ready. Your tugh as nails, no doubt, with Gwen, you have now reached a point where others only dream of. Great work.

Stay Kool, B of BSRoos out

Thank you so much Smooth, Rachel, Brooke and Brent! :)

It was such a great experience!!! I have lots of room to improve with this race. Gets me excited to do it again next year!!

My body feels GREAT day. Tired ... but zero pain. I like it! :)

Great job Teena! That swim sounded brutal and the bike and run look like super tough courses. I hope you at least got in a few kicks of your own. :) I am sure once you get a few of these under your belt you will be at the top of the field...oh, you already won your age group. Great job.

From Rhett on Sun, Sep 23, 2012 at 21:37:45 from 184.10.181.215

Welcome to the world of tris Teena. Now that you have done the super insane XTERRA a normal triathlon will be easy. Unless you are one of those crazy fast swimmers that are out in front of the chaos, it never gets much better. Doone calls it kong fu swimming. Congrats on finishing an amazingly tough race and sweet to pick up some hardware while you were at it. Yea Teena!

I think you rocked it! Totally!

You're awesome!

From Andrea on Mon, Sep 24, 2012 at 09:52:32 from 72.37.171.52

Great job Teena! That is definitely not an easy race!!! I wish I could've gone up there and watched it this weekend. I am a little surprised that the race was so small.

Did you hear anything about whether they are moving this back up to Oregon next year or if they are keeping it in Utah?

From Teena Marie on Mon, Sep 24, 2012 at 16:59:20 from 65.130.25.187

Fritz~

A few tris or a few good kicks?? :) :) :) (I tried extremely hard NOT to kick anyone!) :)

Rhett~

I am super glad I did it and can't wait until next year. I've already thought of a dozen ways that I can improve!!! (And Doone is right on ... it was Kung Fu swimming at its finest!)

Bradley~

I felt pretty awesome!! Seriously ... I could totally get into races like these. :)

Andrea~

Thanks!!! It was so worth doing. :) At the after-party that night it sounded like they were keeping it in Ogden. :) :) :)

Awesome Teena!

From fly on the Wall on Tue, Sep 25, 2012 at 18:25:35 from 166.70.192.189

CONGRATULATIONS!!

I kind of sort of pondered maybe doing a tri some day but reading your description of the swim is making me not so sure about this kind of sort of pondering. I have no fears of open water but getting kick repeatedly in the face sounds like a bad idea.

From Rachelle on Fri, Sep 28, 2012 at 09:43:51 from 159.212.71.200

Okay seriously Teena you are simply incredible! I absolutely love that you set a goal and go for it wholeheartedly. You are such an amazing example of strength and courage and I truly admire you. Congratulations!!
