* HAPPY NEW YEAR *

5K and 1 Mile Fun Run

*****

Pre-race stretching!!! Check out Oliver's flexibility!!! :)

Girl Power!!!!

The Jensen Trouble Makers!!! :)

Funnest race EVER EVER EVER!!!!

After a family discussion we decided we would open up the New Year with a family run followed by ice skating and dinner. It was absolutely FANTASTIC!!!! We threw around a few different plans of action and then decided we would run our newly found race together.

The first mile was the BEST since all seven of us were running as a family. We were on the JRP and the weather cooperated beautifully. Our first mile came in at 11:50. The twins impressed us all with running the whole time! Oliver, Livvy, and Ryan had completed their fun run, and Rylee, Payton, Sophia, and I had another 2.1 to go.

As we began our 2nd mile we picked up the pace to about 10 minute miles, Sophia's comfortably tough zone. We laughed and enjoyed ourselves, but it was obvious that Rylee was itching to take off. With one mile left I told Rylee and Payton that they could run as fast as they wanted to the finish. Their faces lit up and off they went. We were at an area that looped a bit and so for a minute or so I was able to watch Rylee from the side. She looked amazing and I am sure she was running at about a 7 minute pace.

Before I knew it our run was over. I wish it would have lasted for hours more. I was in heaven. Running with my cute hubby and kids. What better way is there to start a new year?

Ice Skating and dinner was fabulous!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

13.1 miles - AP: 8:29

The AirNow site said that the air was "moderate" today and since it wasn't too cold  I ventured outside. It felt good to be off of the treadmill and the time passed very quickly. I concentrated on running balanced and keeping good form. I switched sides of the road every two miles in hopes of giving both legs equal times on the uneven stuff. I have not had any problems since I switched back to my Adidas shoes. :)

20 minutes Core Workout with Ry (No, Smooth ... it's not what you think!!!! It was with a medicine and stability ball!!!) We had so much fun!! Mostly laughing at each other, which was probably the best abs workout of all! :)

Hip strengthening exercises.

30 minutes upright bike: 10.21 miles (10 minutes moderate, 20 minutes hard. Max HR: 185)

1/2 mile swim - 20:09. Could not get into any type of groove. I have no idea how people swim fast! (I am counting every quarter of a mile swim as 1 crosstraining mile, yet it is much easier for me to run 4 miles than to swim 1. So who knows if this is an accurate correlation.)

* Now off to buy my textbooks for this semester and then to work.

(10 miles w/AP of 8:18, then .5 cooldown)

Ran on the TM while Sophia, Oliver, and Livvy would periodically work out on the elliptical and bike. Watched Biggest Loser. Pushed the pace during commercials, but ALWAYS kept good form (at least I think it was good form, my form is likely horrible, but I was at least thinking about it).

** Andy, Smooth, and Kathie: I KNOW I KNOW I KNOW ... I DON'T KNOW WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME!!!! I promise, my intentions were good though. AND ... THANK YOU SO SO SO MUCH for the FANTASTIC lunch date!!! We need to do that again ... promise me!!!!

Later PM:

One church basketball game.

I got a phone call at 8:19 from one of my friends in the ward. It went like this: "Teena, you need to get over here. We are going to forfeit if you don't!!" Stink!!! I learned a long time ago that the chance of injury is very high in church ball!!! Oh well ... it was good for a little more cardio and fun! :)

THE MOST FUN I HAVE

HAD ON

AN 18 MILER

EVER EVER EVER!!!!

I wish every long run could be like this! Last night I had a sore throat and a bad headache and was worried that I would have to back out of this one. I was so happy when I woke up and the sore throat was gone. Yes, the headache was still there, but it was not as intense, and only needed a nice long run with Smooth to leave entirely!!! :) :) :)

Thank you SSF for today. I had more fun than I can possibly express. LOVED every mile!!! YES --- EVERY SINGLE ONE (seriously -- how often can someone say that when talking about a long run). You are the BESTEST BESTEST BESTEST!!!!

AND ... I had two firsts today:

1. FIRST TIME EVER to run such a long run without any NSAIDS!!!!

2. FIRST TIME EVER to run over 40 miles a week without any NSAIDS!!!!

J J J J J J

Also, I would like to give a shout out to my boy, Ry ...

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!

13.14 miles - AP: 7:57

Was really bummed that the air was so stinky outside and that I would have to run on the treadmill. I decided to run at the gym in hopes of making the time go by faster. Because I didn't have as much time as I would like I decided that I would push the pace a bit. My plan was to alternate between 8:34s and 8:00s. However, the gym was packed (could barely find a treadmill) and all of the runners got the juices flowin' in me. Needless to say, as I began to run I formulated a new plan. I thought, "Hey Teena, why don't you see if you can match your last year's Painter's time." Stupid idea, I know. But it became my mission. I couldn't remember my exact time but knew it was a little under 1:45, so that was the time to match or beat. I ended up having to dig deep and hit puke zone the last two miles but finished in 1:44:28!! :) I actually ran almost 1/20th of a mile too long because I was closing my eyes and counting down the end (in hopes of keeping the puke down). My counting must have been a little off!

Hope this run doesn't negatively impact my race this week. But I am very happy! :)

(Beat my last year's Painter's time by 23 seconds.)

** Notes to self: Tried the new Gu "Roctane." Not sure if it was the pace or the gel, but my stomach felt really icky after the run. Also, need to drink more since I lost three pounds during the run. Or is that what I should expect? Who knows. Drank at 4 miles, had a gu and a little drink at mile 7, more drink at 9 and 11. Seems sufficient when I write it down. Hmmm...

I am so happy about this race. Although it is not a PR for me, it is a course PR by 5 minutes, and I feel like it was the strongest that I have ever run in a half marathon. (Additionally, it is the first race in years that I haven't used any NSAIDS.)

This morning before getting ready I asked Kelli for some racing advice. She told me this: "Stop over thinking it and just run hard -- if it gets too hard just slow down until you can run hard again." Funny how the most simple advice often is the best.

One of the GREAT things about this race is that I got to run about 9 miles of it with Mark (huans32). He definitely was a great help. His words of encouragement were so appreciated and he kept me honest in my effort.

I had so much fun!!! I am LOVING spending the weekend with my SSF (Smooth), Kelli, and Emily! Also being able to have lunch with Maynard (Brad), Rhett and his beautiful wife, Doone, and many others was a huge highlight! Last night's dinner and frozen custard today with Lowell was FANTASTIC, and, of course, seeing all my FRB friends -- love it, love it, love it!!! I feel so so so lucky!!!

Okay -- off to dinner with the girls!!! YAHOO!!!! :)

18 miles - AP:8:48

I was so so so so lucky to have Kelli with me today. Without her, there would have been NO STINKIN' WAY that I could have finished 18 miles. In fact, during the run I had my fingers crossed that she would say something like, "Hey, let's just do 10 or 12 miles today." But nope -- she is far too diehard for that!!! The plan was to take it nice and easy, but sadly, it never felt easy to me, it was comfortably hard the whole 18 miles. Does that make sense?

Okay this is what I learned about Kelli on the run -- actually I already knew these things but they are now more fully tatooed in my mind:

1. Kelli truly is the HILL QUEEN. Try as I might, I just could not keep up with her on Puke Hill which we ran at our 16 mile mark. That girl runs hills like no other. Amazing!!!!

2. Kelli really really really does NOT drink ANYTHING on an 18 miler!!! WHAT IN THE WORLD???? Seriously, how is that possible??? Here I am with my four fuel bottles filled to the max, and she would not take one single sip. Physiologically -- is that possible???? I guess so ... I just don't know how!

3. Like me, when the last handful of miles shows up on a long run Kelli just wants to get them over. It was so funny! We had been chatting away the whole time until the end. Then we just wanted to be done. Our last 9 miles were much faster than our first 9 miles.

Anyway ... THANK YOU KELLI!!!! I needed you badly today. You amaze me!!!

** On a side note, it was fun to run into Mark (huans32) on the trail. :)

Happy Saturday!!! Where's my food????  :)
