Gold's Gym Sprint #2:

(Was going to start out with the swim but it was crowded and so started on the bike.)

Upright Bike: 20K

Run: 5K (Fonz pushed me at the end ... he kept pointing his finger up ... dang him!)

Swim: 750 meters

TT: 82:55 (This does not count transition times, which btw, was quite a bit between my run and swim.)

** Pushed myself hard, not diehardest hard, but the "Oh this feels awesome  -- but I don't know how long I can maintain it, dang ... hope I can make it" dripping sweat effort. I can see why you should swim first. Swimming at the end was pretty tough. :)

I will be tired today! :)

Happy Monday All!

(Watched Fonz' form while he was on the treadmill the other day. Tried to copy it during my speedwork while keeping my body fairly relaxed. Hmmmm ... )

((Still a ways to go to get back to where I was in March, but making progress.))

Running PC with my SSF

I have been so nervous about the Park City Marathon in two weeks. Today I realized why ... DANG ... that race is going to kick my trash!!!!

Smooth picked me up at 6:15 and we headed out. The plan was to run 12 miles covering the hardest miles of the marathon. I wanted to run them hard ... little did I know that no matter how you run those miles ... they are HARD!! (I can be such a baby!)

We got turned around and confused a few times, but there was no way confusing those uphill miles to Deer Valley and the huge hill on 8th street before hitting Empire. (We actually ran that hill twice to try and convince ourselves that we were tough.)

I have to admit that I was always more than happy to stop at a stoplight or take a breather when trying to figure out which way to turn.

The best part BY FAR was breakfast afterwards!

I have the GREATEST SSF EVER!!!! :)

17.5 miles on Smooth's absolutely BEAUTIFUL Alpine Loop course. :) :) :)

No Chumps run today, so Smooth convinced me that running in Lehi would be well worth the drive. She was SO SO SO right.

Met up with Smooth and her gang a little after 6. The weather was amazing. Ran a couple of miles with my SSF and Staci and then got caught up in the beauty of the area and wanted to find a natural but good effort pace. Seriously, this was one of the prettiest training runs I have ever run. I LOVED it. Albeit, I had no idea that we were going to be running hills again! Well worth it though. :) :) :)

Not sure if I should count my marathon pace miles as marathon pace since they were downhill. Hmmm ...

Anyway ... THANK YOU SO MUCH SMOOTH!!!!!

** On a side note ... Smooth failed to mention in her entry how stinkin' amazing she is AND how she smoked me on the last mile!!!! If that girl wouldn't run so many dang marathons she could easily knock off 20 minutes! She NEVER gives herself enough credit!

(Came home and went boating ... only to get out in the water for about an hour and turn around and come back home. Dang wind!)

((BUT ... my hubby bought me the dishwasher I have been eyeing for quite some time - but could never pull the trigger on - while I was gone this morning. HUGE BONUS!!!!))

** There is this older guy at my gym. We have been smiling at each other and exchanging greetings for quite some time now. Today he was wearing a Provo River Half t-shirt. I asked him how it went, etc. We got talking for quite some time. This guy is AMAZING! He is 66 years old (I thought he was mid to late 50s -- looks fantastic). In his twenties he ran for the University of Utah (I knew he was RED). He talked about the good 'ol days when he would run a 4:12 mile and sub15 5K!! Wow!!! I enjoyed talking to him so much. At 66, with not much training, he ran the Half in 1:51. Cool cool guy! He is headed to South Africa for a couple of weeks, but can't wait to talk to him again. :)

I AM SO SO SO HAPPY!!!

Ironman length swim

2.4 miles/3.8 km/154 lengths!!!! :) :) :)

** Originally was going to swim 1 mile and then bike. But felt really good at one mile so decided to go for two (which usually does me in).

At 2 miles I was tired but still swimming smooth and very much in control.

Decided to go for it!!!

2.4 miles later my arms feel like noodles, but I am so happy!

What a beautiful morning.

I was thrilled last night when Ry told me that he would run the first handful of miles with me this morning (it must have been the chocolate covered gummibears I bought for him). :)

True to his word he got up and out the door we went. We ran 2.25 miles to West Jordan High School's track. Then he timed me on a couple of 400s. Then we ran back home. Almost a perfect five miles. :) I kissed him goodbye and then headed out again, this time to the JRP. I was surprised how good I felt (other than some tightness in my right lateral rotators ... which always comes and goes any time I add hills to my training). I stopped at Geranium Park and took off my shoes and socks and ran one mile barefoot on the soccer field grass in honor of Rhett's running again! :) :) :) It felt AWESOME. Ran back home, throwing 2 800s in towards the end. Grabbed Sophia and Livvy for a one mile cooldown. Was very happy with how this run went.

Happy Thursday!!! :) :) :)

HAPPY BIRTHDAY

JOHNNY!!!

It is JohnnyV's birthday today. Cool!

Due to the nature of individual needs the Chumps run today began with a staggered start with everyone meeting up at Winchester at 6:00 to continue or finish their run. I actually think this is a really great way to do it. Hope we make it tradition.

It was a nice easy 13ish miler. I have no idea of exact pace or distance since my watch battery was dead. Like a fool, I wore it anyway. Being the habitual person I am I kept glancing down thinking it was going to magically juice itself back up and begin working. It never did! Dang.

Once we finished we celebrated Johnny's birthday like ROCKSTARS with 7/11 slurpees!!!

Let the good times roll!!! :)

P.S. #1:

Brent, when are you and Sylvie going to start running with us? We always see you!!!!

P.S. #2:

If anyone hears Smooth say she is slow again ... remind her that she was running some of her miles in the 7:20s today!!!!!!

(I think RivertonPaul pulls the speed right out of that girl!)

* I have been fighting a sinus cold for over a week now. My head finally started feeling better but yesterday I began having massive upper teeth pain. I've had this before and it lasted for weeks. Anyway, I decided to run to the Target in Jordan Landing and see if there was any over the counter meds that would help. I took only my debit card with me. Unfortuantely, the pharmacist said that my best bet would be sudafed, but that she couldn't sell it to me because I didn't have identification. STINK!!!

I guess I should head back, but this time I will drive! :)

Stinky Day.

Could not sleep more than 10-15 minutes at a time last night. The antiobiotics didn't seem to be working as every hour my face began to swell more and more. Ry looked at me this morning and started making phone calls.

Just got back from the endodontist. He redid (is that a word?) a root canal (or at least the first half of it, I have to go back next Tuesday to finish it), switched my antiobiotics and put me on some pain meds. Whatever, all I know is that it hurts.

I look like I am storing kiwis in my left cheek. Dang.

Ry just went to pick up the meds. I hope they knock me out.

The endodontist did not know if I would be feeling up to running PCM this Saturday.

Debated on whether to post today or not. I am having a rough time and am quite sad. Selfishly, I have decided to post because so many of you on here have the ability to lift my spirits and make me smile.

It has been a hard couple of days. What I thought was merely a sinus infection has turned out to be quite a mess. I had a root canal some time ago, and whether this is where the problem began, or where it ended I am not sure. All I know is that the infection spread throughout the entire left side of my face and head.

After the endodontist re-did the root canal I was in hopes that things would improve. Unfortunately the pain continued to increase as well as the swelling. Last night the swelling had progressed to where my eye began to shut. Needless to say, I ended up with an IV pumping additional antiobiotics through my body, and will have additional IV therapy today and Thursday. (I was supposed to leave the insertion of the IV in but pulled it out last night in frustration, dang.)

Anyway, that is the update. I am still holding out hopes for PCM this Saturday, but am starting to have my doubts.

My family is calling me Cindy-Lou-Who from Jim Carey's Grinch. I guess that is better than Fat Face or Chubby Cheeks. :)

** On a positive note, I was able to sleep some last night and the pain is less today than it was yesterday. I was able to eat a yogurt this morning and am hopes of things improving by the hour. :) :) :)

4th day on oral antibiotics.

3rd day of intravenous antibiotics.

Pain is decreasing some, swelling ... not so much.

** I think that the resting and taking it easy can only get me so far (and it makes me feel like a slug). I am going to take a nice walk and do everything I need to get done around the house so that I can leave for Park City later this afternoon. Yeah, I have a fat face ... who cares!!! (Yeah, I know ... I care ... but I am going to fake hardcoreness nonetheless!)

**********

40 minutes elliptical (easy - just enough to work up a bit of a sweat and make me not feel so sluggish)

** My new dishwasher will be here within the hour!!! That's going to turn everything around, right????? Afterall, it's a Bosch (which according to Smooth is the BEST). It's time to Bosch things up a bit!! :) :) :)

BEAUTIFUL DAY!!!

14 years ago today I married the boy who has been my best friend since I was 12. :)

* 2 mile jog with my boy

We slept in, went for a jog, went out for breakfast, and now are just chillin' at the pool. He looks so cute reading his *bang 'em up, shoot 'em up* Vince Flynn novel wearing his Boston Marathon baseball cap backwards and his callaway shades.

The swelling in my face began going down yesterday and is continuing to improve by the hour. Pain is also lessening substantially. No tylenol with codeine last night or today! :) :) :)

Park City Marathon

(a story of miles and alcohol)

 J J J

WARNING: LONG!!! IF YOU ARE ONLY GOING TO READ ONE PART OF THIS RACE REPORT, READ MILE 20! :) :) :)

First, a quick shout out to antibiotics – especially when given intravenously.

Tuesday morning I was pretty confident that I would not be running this race. For those of you who saw the worst of my pics you know what I am talking about. Fortunately, the combination of three different antibiotics worked their magic in about 72 hours. Hallelujah!!

In short, I loved this race. It was definitely not a fast course, and was extremely difficult in portions, but spending time with friends and running in such a beautiful part of Utah made it absolutely unforgettable.

Here's the rundown:

Loved the openness of the first several miles. I could see the leaders off in the distance and tried to feed off of their energy. I had started with Mark (huans32) but soon he left me in his dust. Sadly he had a rough day and I caught up to him around mile 10, which was about the same time that I saw Pres. Smooth and his huge smile! Awesome, I needed that.

The major uphill portions were right around the corner and I tried not to psyche myself out. Ironically, this portion of the race ended up being one of my favorites. I felt a surge of electricity as the leaders came in view. Amber looked SUPER!!!!! I was completely re-energized as she stuck out her hand for a high-five. Seriously, what lead woman (or man for that fact) does that? She seemed to be celebrating life and enjoying every second as she was running supersonic speeds!!! That girl is something else!!!

Next, I saw Slick and Kristi. I was having so much fun that I completely didn’t register the directions the volunteer was giving me to turn up Deer Valley. He had said left, I heard it, I smiled and said, "thank you" and then turned right!!!!! Luckily he ran after me and got me back on track.

Within seconds of my failure to follow directions I saw RivertonPaul running effortlessly down Deer Valley. On my way back down I enjoyed the smile of my SSF. (It was such a relief to see her. She looked so strong and I had been so worried because she was so sick.) Yes, these miles were technically the hardest, but dang they were fun!!!!

(Should I mention the hill up to Empire Street? Nah ... I followed the example of others and walked the blasted thing. Dang!)

MILE 20 – I will NEVER EVER EVER forget this mile. My plan for the race was simple: Just get to mile 20 and Andy will make sure you get across the finish line! True to his word, Andy was there! Our journey together began with a real bang! Let me explain: There was an aide station ahead and I was already feeling the signs of glycogen depletion. I reached for a Gatorade, but two guys grabbed them. So as the station was ending, and after hollering, “Gatorade please.” I reached and grabbed a cup on the very edge of the table. I took a huge gulp. Something was off. Being the hypochondriac that I sometimes am I immediately panicked and started thinking to myself, “Stink! I am entering ketosis, and the burning icky taste I am experiencing is my own protein that I must be burning. I better force down a couple more swallows to avoid dehydration.” My second gulp was just as bad, but I forced myself to swallow. Wait a second, why was there ice in my cup? “Hmmm . . .” I thought, “Since when did they start doing this?” I asked Andy to take a swig. The look on his face was priceless, “This isn’t Gatorade, Teena, this is ALCOHOL!!! It's vodka and orange juice!!!!!!” What in the ...????. I must have grabbed the volunteer’s personal drink!!! Andy was so extremely nice and ran back to his vehicle to grab me something he was certain was Gatorade! Alcohol at mile 20 .... I still laugh each time I think about it!!!!

By mile 23 I was hammered (unfortunately, not by the alcohol). Had Andy not been there I am sure that I would have slowed to a shuffle. He would have none of that. He'd see a woman ahead and tell me to pass her. He knew exactly how to motivate me. Thank you so so so much Andy. I cannot tell you enough how much I appreciated having you there to see me through.

In conclusion (this is much longer than I had planned) I have NEVER placed in the top three of my division in any major race, let alone first!!!

I was giddy all day!! :) :) :)

*A very special thanks to all those super fast women in my age group who stayed home so that my dream could come true!!! *

My favorite weather to run in! :)

10.25 miles AP: 8:02

(I have been trying not to concentrate on pace so much as effort, so have not been recording my splits. The stinky thing about that is that now when I look back I have nothing to compare it with. So ... I will start keeping track again, but will continue to try and concentrate on effort.)

Ran is Sugarhouse. SHP x 2/2100/P/F then reverse. Went up came back down! :)

8:39, 7:56, 8:39, 9:12, 8:56, 8:13, 7:09, 7:18, 6:53 (stopped for a drink), 7:51, 1:39

Happy with the effort.

I will now do a mini-taper for the Poky Full. :)

** It was especially fun to see Allie finishing up her crazy run(s) today!!! :)
