12.1 miles

- 10.1 miles with Ry, AP 7:54 on 78th and the JRP. I am pretty certain this was his first 10 miler at a sub 8 pace. It was also his first run using a metronome. We are working on increasing his cadence. The metronome seems to be helping. About a month ago it was 156-158. Last week we had it at 162-164. Today with the metronome he was consistently at 166-168. Our present goal for him is 170. Almost there. :)

- 1 mile with Gracie and Livvy, 10:20.

- 1 mile with Nic and Sherm, 8:37.

LOTS of basketball today (for the kids ... I merely watched and cheered).  :) :) :)

*****************

I don't want to forget what I felt/experienced today, so here it is in writing:

Today we had time with a few gentlemen who had lower extremity amputations. One particular gentleman was a marine who had his tibia literally split down the middle by an IED two years ago in Afghanistan. Since then he has had multiple surgeries trying to repair and save the leg. He was at the point where he could walk, but was in constant pain. This incredible man who is married with three young children had been active all of his life and had a passion of running. When he said this I lost it (literally, I could not hold back the tears): "For many of you this will be hard to understand, but I am a runner. Before this happened to me I would faithfully run 12 miles three days a week. It became obvious that I would never be able to run again on this leg even with all of the surgeries. Neither would I be able to go hiking with my kids or chase them around the yard. That is why, after much convincing, I talked my surgeon into removing it." This gentleman had a below the knee amputation on October 4th this year. His emotions and pain were all still very raw. He now looks forward to getting his prosthetic in a few weeks. He will then have to relearn how to walk and gain enough strength, stamina, coordination and integumentary integrity in his residual limb to withstand the impact of running (which he will also have to reteach himself how to do, on yet, another prosthetic).

This gentleman inspired me on multiple levels. It was a class that I will never forget.

6.180.000.000.000.006.18

6.18 AWESOME miles with Fly and Julia on the trails in CCC. Up to TPF saddle and back. I say up, because it was definitely up. Funny thing is when I guessed how much climbing we had done in those first 3.09 miles I guessed about 800. I was only a tad off. According to Julia's watch (I ran garminless) we climbed 1547 feet. Sad thing is when I made my guess Fly told Julia, "Don't listen to her ... she has no idea when it comes to measuring distance on a run!!!" I couldn't stop laughing when I read Julia's email giving me our stats for the day. FUNNY!

Thanks for the run Fly and Julia. LOVED it! :)

30 minutes bike, easy

30 minutes elliptical, easy

Even just a bit of easy exercise seems to make my day better. Ry and I definitely missed the canyon today. Perhaps we need to pick up a winter activity of some sort. Tough thing is that we plain don't like to be cold. :)

* So, this is kind of funny. I scheduled a hair appointment today at 7:00. The lady I go to does it out of her home. I showed up this morning at 6:58 and all the lights were out. I waited a few minutes but they never came on. A few minutes after that I gave her a call. She answered the phone and in a sleepy voice exclaims, "Teena ... the appointment is at 7:00 TONIGHT!!!" Oh man ... I am such a fool!!! I guess people don't normally do hair before the sun comes out. Still laughing!

Missed my Ry tremendously today on my run. He has been working pretty much non-stop around the clock, including weekends, dealing with some things that recently came up and have to be done by the new year. Missed him, missed him, missed him.
