So ... I didn't get into Boston. Last night I was sick about it. However, today I am feeling much better.

I'm thinking I might run one of these two marathons instead (see links below). They are both during my Spring Break and so would work out PERFECTLY. They look awesome!!! Ry and I could make a vacation out of it since I will have a week off. :) :) :)

Anyone know anything about either of these races?

(I am leaning towards Napa.)

Napa Valley looks too easy.

From Smooth on Tue, Oct 19, 2010 at 17:48:55 from 67.41.235.104

Napa Valley is cheaper...registration fee, flights, lodging, etc. The course looks like a self-support 10K loop with aid station at only the start and finish. It is a nice dirt trail though. Would be fun. I think the national marathon will be GRAND! I always want to do that one!

Oh, I just noticed that there is a rule in the Napa Valley marathon that absolutely NO AUDIO device allowed, or you'd be disqualified! Hmmm, you'll have to get Ry to run w/ you for tunes (does he sing?) or me to talk your ears off! :D

From allie on Tue, Oct 19, 2010 at 19:05:57 from 174.23.232.22

i think they both look like great options. i have heard excellent things about the napa race.

and sorry about boston - i am in the same boat.

Not sure about Napa - they might make you have a glass of wine each lap -- :)

From Kathie on Tue, Oct 19, 2010 at 20:50:02 from 63.248.105.188

Sorry about Boston, i think it is a great idea to run another race/vacation.

From fly on the Wall on Tue, Oct 19, 2010 at 23:28:53 from 166.70.192.189

Run Napa and do a wine tasting tour. :) Who knows you just might like it better than OJ w/ vodka. :)

As for Boston, that bites. It is full before NYC which I think many people used to qualify at. It seems lots of marathons are filling earlier and earlier. What is wrong with people? Why are all these idiots running? Don't they know it is will ruin their knees and give them heart attacks (that is the rumor I'm trying to spread).

You all make me laugh!!

Let's see ... no ipods, but wine!?!?

That should pan out to be quite the race!!! ;)

From Tom Slick on Wed, Oct 20, 2010 at 09:25:34 from 168.179.157.36

Hey I think I'll drop Boston and come run Napa with you! Wine is much better than calm chowder!

From Andy on Wed, Oct 20, 2010 at 12:34:41 from 159.212.71.69

Trail marathons and road marathons are completely different events. Being an extreme type A personality, would you be satisfied running a slow race on dirt with lots of elevation change that is somewhere around 26.2 miles (give or take)?

From fly on the Wall on Wed, Oct 20, 2010 at 13:22:50 from 204.113.19.47

Good point Andy.

I've run both and as long as I know from the start that the race won't be fast and the course won't be acurate, I just enjoy the ride.... but I'm probably not an extreme type A.

From Teena Marie on Thu, Oct 21, 2010 at 16:28:31 from 174.23.122.157

What are you all saying???

Are you calling me a type A personality????

Actually Andy, you raised a very very very good point. It really got me thinking and definitely influenced my decision.

Ry and I have decided to run the Napa Half TOGETHER!!!! I am so so so excited!!! :) :) :)

(Then, if I choose, I can still run the SL Full and the Ogden Full if I want to.)

Did I mention how excited I am to run a HALF side by side with Ry?

(If wine ends up in my gatorade cup, well ... there's not much I can do about that!)

:) :) :) :) :) :) :)

From timp on Thu, Oct 21, 2010 at 16:30:26 from 136.182.2.25

Sounds like a great decision. You guys will have a blast, I'm sure.

From fly on the Wall on Thu, Oct 21, 2010 at 16:59:55 from 204.113.19.47

Cooollll. That will be much more fun than running the full alone.

Are you signed up for Ogden?

From Teena Marie on Thu, Oct 21, 2010 at 17:18:44 from 174.23.122.157

Tim and Fly~

I am getting WAY excited!!! Ry is looking into places for us to stay right now. We should probably get some trail shoes, huh? And Fly, will you share your expertise on trails, etc. with me? As for Ogden, yes, I am registered. Are you running Ogden, Fly?

From fly on the Wall on Thu, Oct 21, 2010 at 19:25:16 from 204.113.19.47

You probably don't need trail shoes. I'm guessing the trail won't be very rocky and you wont need them. I almost never run in trail shoes, even on realy rocky trails (I do have orthotics though). Unless you just want an excuse for new shoes.

Ogden filled before I signed up! What is wrong with people? Don't they know that runing ruins knees and causes heart attacks? Not to mention the unmentionable problems it causes. (Help me out. I'm trying to start this rumor.)
