100 minutes deep pool running.

2nd ultrasound treatment

Funny thing: Okay ... so I have had this rash on my hurt leg. Only thing is I hurt on the lateral anterior portion of the lower portion of the lower leg, and the rash is on the medial portion of my upper lower leg (if that makes sense). Anyway, I just thought they somehow were interrelated. This morning the rash was way worse. I decided to head into the Heber InstaCare because I had shingles back in 1996 and the pain and appearance looked much too familiar. Sure enough ... shingles!!! Are you kidding me??? Sigh!! (Luckily this bout of it is not too bad.)

Good news is that today is the first day that I feel like the pain in my leg is really lessening. I think the Ionto patch and ultrasound are starting to work their magic.

I took the kids swimming this afternoon and was able to get in 100 minutes of pool running with very little pain. It was AWESOME!!! And the time flew by as I watched my trouble-makers enjoy themselves splashing around. :)

Teena - just read your blog post, my heck, keep positive, this too shall pass. Hey, one question or maybe just a comment, have your tried compression sleeves for your calves? It may be worth asking your Dr to see if it would help during the marathon, empathy for the shingles, had those a couple of years ago after getting stung by a portiguise man a war.

Brent -- Funny you should mention the compression sleeves. I actually bought some from Wasatch Running right after my 22-miler last Saturday. I have been given conflicting info in regards to whether or not I should be wearing them. My gut tells me that I should. Who knows. I am hoping to be able to experience with them for a bit before Boston. Keeping my fingers crossed! :)

100 minutes in the pool?!!! Good thing the kids are there to help pass the time! :) Sounds like a FUN day!

SO HAPPY to hear the pain is lessening! I LOVE YOU!

Oh Teena, that stinks about the shingles, but sounds like you had a fun time with your family.

From RAD on Sun, Apr 04, 2010 at 01:54:28 from 67.172.229.125

100 minutes in the pool is AMAZING mind control! I'm glad you had the kiddos to distract you.

Heal well - seriously sending prayers and vibes your way to be able to take advantage of all the CRAZY training you've had to go through!!!!

SSF, Smooth, and Rachel,

Thank you so much. Even less pain today!!! I was tempted to put on my running shoes and just try and run one mile. I was smart, however, and didn't. That was a VERY HARD decision for me.

(Maybe in a couple more days.)

Hope you are all having a beautiful Easter! :)

what is the current treatment for Shingles? An antiviral? Seriously girl, maybe you should stay away from the pool. I would be leary to put my head under water at a community pool these days. Shower well after. I am a little infection control freak. Comes with my ICU background. Take some immunity builders. And stay positive.

From Teena Marie on Sun, Apr 04, 2010 at 16:34:30 from 63.226.93.26

Julie -- Yes, they put me on an anti-viral, but ... my outbreak isn't too bad, more bothersome than anything. I had a bad case of shingles back in 1996 while in Romania. This doesn't even touch that episode. Wouldn't you think that all of the chlorine would kill most icky stuff in pools? At least that is my hope. I love to swim at the gym, I would HATE to give it up. It is my understanding that shingles are only contagious through direct contact and not at all if you have previously had chicken pox or been immunized for them. I think my case was brought on by stress (probably a lack of sleep), at least that is what they tell me. Who really knows.

Thank you for the kind words on my Saturday run. Im finding that I can run better with more ease on my own instead of with my best friend (which makes me sad because I love the company) not sure if its something in my head that tells me I have to keep up with her???Shes much faster than me and has already done Boston. Anyway...Im so sorry you are under the weather. I wish you a speedy recovery! Great job in the pool!

It's two weeks till Boston, don't do anything stupid now! Rest and relax your injuries. Do everything moderation!

Okay lady, positive thoughts. You will be in my thoughts and prayers. Really do get better, you have earned Boston!

From Kelli on Mon, Apr 05, 2010 at 14:35:01 from 71.219.92.128

How are you feeling today? I am glad it is just a mild case of shingles, that stuff can be very painful!

Get some rest and quit stressing!!! It will all be fine, no need to worry, right??

Hoping for a good week with the pain gone, the shingles gone, a bunch of sleep, and whatever else you need!

From Tom Slick on Mon, Apr 05, 2010 at 14:56:37 from 168.179.156.166

OK, I'm here, no place to hide from!Hows the leg today?

From Rhett on Mon, Apr 05, 2010 at 17:06:21 from 74.32.222.202

Wow, Slick makes an appearance on fastrunning blog! I think that is a first. I'm glad that leg is starting to get better Teena. Keep doing what you are doing and resist that urge to go out and run. Can't wait to see you and Ryan and everyone else in about a week and a half. It's going to be great!

From Teena Marie on Mon, Apr 05, 2010 at 23:26:42 from 174.52.45.85

Kristi, Vinh, and Paul -- Thanks! :)

Amy -- So good to hear from you! I find that often I run better when I run by myself as well. I think it might have something to do with finding that naturally hard pace that fits just right. ;) You are doing awesome! Really!!! :)

Mystery Runner -- Okay ... okay ... I will try!!! :)

Tim and Bec -- Thanks!! I really do appreciate any healing vibes sent my way! :)

Kelli -- I think I am turning the corner. Today I can really see an improvement. :) I was so excited when I woke up and got out of bed and realized I was not in pain. :) Shingles are already all but gone. Very mild case. And I do know how painful they can be. I was sent to Germany to be hospitalized when I got them when I was in Romania. Not pretty!!!

SLICK SLICK SLICK!!!!! YAHOO BABY!!! A huge smile crossed my face when I saw your name!!!! I'm smiling right now!!!! Today I am really starting to see an improvement. Now I just need to be smart and not aggravate anything. :)

Rhett -- We are going to party!!! :) :) :)
