13.14 miles - AP: 7:57

Was really bummed that the air was so stinky outside and that I would have to run on the treadmill. I decided to run at the gym in hopes of making the time go by faster. Because I didn't have as much time as I would like I decided that I would push the pace a bit. My plan was to alternate between 8:34s and 8:00s. However, the gym was packed (could barely find a treadmill) and all of the runners got the juices flowin' in me. Needless to say, as I began to run I formulated a new plan. I thought, "Hey Teena, why don't you see if you can match your last year's Painter's time." Stupid idea, I know. But it became my mission. I couldn't remember my exact time but knew it was a little under 1:45, so that was the time to match or beat. I ended up having to dig deep and hit puke zone the last two miles but finished in 1:44:28!! :) I actually ran almost 1/20th of a mile too long because I was closing my eyes and counting down the end (in hopes of keeping the puke down). My counting must have been a little off!

Hope this run doesn't negatively impact my race this week. But I am very happy! :)

(Beat my last year's Painter's time by 23 seconds.)

** Notes to self: Tried the new Gu "Roctane." Not sure if it was the pace or the gel, but my stomach felt really icky after the run. Also, need to drink more since I lost three pounds during the run. Or is that what I should expect? Who knows. Drank at 4 miles, had a gu and a little drink at mile 7, more drink at 9 and 11. Seems sufficient when I write it down. Hmmm...

PM:

15 minutes upright bike

50 minutes elliptical

Teena Marie! You crazy!

From Kathie on Sat, Jan 16, 2010 at 18:02:47 from 63.248.105.188

Wow that is just plain sick...pun intended! You run at puke pace and then wonder why you feel like puking? Silly girl!

Can't wait to see you next week!!!!

From Smooth on Sat, Jan 16, 2010 at 18:19:32 from 174.23.217.47

SSF!!! I couldn't believe it when you called me and asked if you'd beat last year Painter's time! CRAZY!!! NUTS!!! INSANE!!! :) :) :) With that said, I LOVE your run!!! Oh and I still love you even if you mess up. But I HATE your loosing 3 lbs!!! Granted it's mostly water, but still...I've been trying my darnest to loose 6 lbs!!!! NOT FAIR!!!! :) :D

From Kelli on Sat, Jan 16, 2010 at 19:20:55 from 71.219.89.82

My stomach did not like the roctane either!

NICE RUN!!! That would have killed me on a treadmill. I can never duplicate what I can do outside on a treadmill. A 7:30 miles on a treadmill about kills me, and I can only do 1. I hate those machines!

Nice job! I am glad you stayed inside, I have been hacking all day and my throat is burning. YUCKY air!!!

You are going to do great next Saturday!!

From Andy on Sat, Jan 16, 2010 at 21:15:39 from 198.60.114.178

Your race is next week, not this week, silly. Three pounds water loss on a hard 13 miler inside seems about right.

From vinh on Sat, Jan 16, 2010 at 22:16:55 from 71.68.254.197

Great run Teena! You will do awesome on the upcoming half. I didn't take any gels today, I wonder if I should have lol. Dangit! Can't wait to hear about your next race.

Burt -- :) :) :)

Kathie -- Good point!!! :)

SSF -- I'm sure I gained it all back already! :) Love talking to you on a run ... even if it is on the phone! :)

Kel -- No way I could have ran in that air or those hills! Can't wait to party with you this upcoming weekend! :)

Andy -- You are right!!!! :) Wish you were going to be there.

Vinh -- You are too diehard! Kelli doesn't take anything during halfs either! You both are far too hardcore for me. I'm like, "Give me some sugar, come on somebody, sugar ... PLEASE!!!" Seriously, your race today was AWESOME!!!!

So...I haven't been blogging much (or at all) lately so I am making the rounds checking in and it looks like you are still the animal that I remember!! Holy cow you are amazing!! 13+ miles on a treadmill and another hour of exercise later in the PM?? Where do you get your ambition. And, I have NEVER lost pounds during a run let alone 3 pounds. Drink Drink Drink girl!! You are doing amazing. Keep it up!! Good luck this weekend, I know you will do great!!!

Have to agree with Burt, You are a little crazy! Where people looking at you a little strangely at the gym? Who is this lady??

I think we could all benefit from a little more of your kind of crazy though!!

From MarcE on Sun, Jan 17, 2010 at 14:40:25 from 206.225.68.69

Teena! Awesomely speedy half mary on de mill! No NSAIDs? Sweet! You're going to rock at SG.

From Teena Marie on Sun, Jan 17, 2010 at 17:24:07 from 174.52.45.85

Kellie --- I miss you!!! Please tell me you are running Painters!!!

Jeffery --- They all know that I am crazy already (aren't all of us?)!!! The only thing that threw them off is that they are not used to me doing long runs there. So when the TM automatically shut off at 60 minutes they were a little surprised that I re-started it. :)

Marc -- Who knows what I was thinking trying to match my last year's Painters time. So stupid! I honestly don't think I will be able to run any faster than that come race day. BUT ... if I can match that time I will be very satisfied. :)

From Scott Wesemann on Sun, Jan 17, 2010 at 23:02:13 from 75.162.72.176

Congrats on your run. That is awesome that you pushed hard even when you felt crappy. I think all of the gels and gu's are icky, but they help me for sure. I have to gag them down every time with water. YUCK!

You're going to have a great race next week. Good luck.

From Lyman on Mon, Jan 18, 2010 at 09:54:07 from 75.169.101.104

Killer pace! And then more training in the evening...You are going to have an awesome race at Painters.

BTW - closing your eyes on the TM while running is not too safe! lol.

From Rhett on Mon, Jan 18, 2010 at 11:56:45 from 74.41.249.102

I agree, that 3 pounds on a hard 13 miler inside on the TM is not much. I often loose 6 or 7 pounds on a run like that. Great run by the way. You are so determined once you set your mind to something. That is what makes you such a great runner, but also what makes you injury prone like myself. Be careful.

You are going to do great at Painter's.

From Brent on Mon, Jan 18, 2010 at 21:54:53 from 76.8.201.223

T NA NA - mental toughness chore on Milly - a PR running with closed eyes, hum, not sure if that gets commando points or not? Maybe a new category of commando points, like clockwork orange commando points. You have to be a little crazy to be a good runner. Very good practice for races, you know that you can hang on to the pace.

Stay Kool, Get some Kool Shades for the next adventure with Milly, B of BS Rools out

Teena Marie!! I miss you too! It's been too darn long. I am running painters but only doing the 5k. I can no longer keep up in mileage or pace with the rest of you. You are all just too darn amazing for me!! I am in envy :) (a little drool running down my cheek now :)). No, you are going to do amazing this weekend. You work your butt off and deserve it! Can't wait to see your time!! Rock On Teena Marie~!!!!
