15 miles AP: 8:44

Pfitz 4 weeks between marathon schedule had me run a 15 miler today. I wasn't looking forward to it, but had planned carefully my week so that I could fit it into my planned taper.

About 10 miles into my run it started to rain ... PERFECT, I love the rain. But dang, then it started to rain HARD and then to hail!!! My ipod shorted out and I was literally soaking wet. My shoes felt like they were ten pounds and my toes on my right foot felt like they were blistering. Luckily the hard stuff only last about 1.5 miles. My ipod never did come back. I will stick it in a bowl of rice and see if I can revive it.

Glad this run is over. Now I will concentrate on resting sufficiently!!! :) :) :)

Rain and ipods. :)

From Andy on Wed, Sep 22, 2010 at 16:46:13 from 159.212.71.69

I'm biting my lip and telling myself you know what you are doing. Only easy miles from here on out except a couple of MP miles to stay sharp.

From Teena Marie on Wed, Sep 22, 2010 at 16:55:29 from 174.23.122.157

Paul~

I know!!! Silly ipods!

Andy~

I told you that I don't know what I am doing!!! :) :) :)

You are absolutely right ... only easy miles from here on it ... except for a few MP miles on Monday.

I only did that run today because Pfitz said to! So I am hoping the he knows what he is doing! :) Seriously though ... I am only going to run an easy 4 miles with Ry tomorrow night and then 10-11 miles on Saturday. So I am within my allotted miles for the week. Right? Please oh please oh please. :)

From Andy on Wed, Sep 22, 2010 at 16:57:27 from 159.212.71.69

As long as you feel good then there is nothing to worry about.

From Teena Marie on Wed, Sep 22, 2010 at 17:01:23 from 174.23.122.157

Andy~

I just have some tightness in my right lateral rotators. I am seeing Matt tomorrow to see if he can work it all out. :)

Overall, I feel much better than I had anticipated. I am just scared to death because I haven't had any real long runs since Poky. Sigh.

From Smooth on Wed, Sep 22, 2010 at 17:05:37 from 67.41.235.104

SSF ~ You got hailed on too? I was completely drenched and was glad that I didn't have to run 15 like you did. Goodness...that is a lot of miles for tapering! And fast ones to boot (well, fast for me).

Hope the rest of the week is less hectic for ya. Love and miss you!

From Kathie on Wed, Sep 22, 2010 at 17:12:40 from 63.248.105.188

Wow big miles! you are going to do great at St. George stop worrying!

From Smooth on Wed, Sep 22, 2010 at 17:26:39 from 67.41.235.104

SSF ~ Quit worrying! You had more quality long runs than you realize. The back to back Pokey and Spanish Fork PR runs are much much much more valuable than any 20+ miler.

From Chad on Wed, Sep 22, 2010 at 17:32:15 from 168.177.153.5

iPod and rice? How does that work?

From timp on Wed, Sep 22, 2010 at 20:18:05 from 68.164.215.207

Teena - you're fine. An easy 15 about 9 days out isn't going to kill your legs.

And what is a right lateral rotator? I don't think I have one of those, do I?

From Tom Slick on Wed, Sep 22, 2010 at 20:42:27 from 69.171.160.180

an easy 15 miler is perfect for your taper plan.....too bad about your Ipod.

From timp on Wed, Sep 22, 2010 at 20:59:51 from 68.164.215.207

for you taper-ers, I just ran across this and it is very good.

SSF~

This week has been so so so hectic, and it's not letting up. I am volunteering at Neuroworx today, have a Mountain Land luncheon I need to go to tomorrow, a Women's Conference dinner to put on Saturday night, plus all of the kids' games, my schooling, and so forth. I can't wait to see you on Saturday. I have missed you!!! :)

Kathie~

I hope you are right! :) :) :)

Chad~

Unfortunately, I am far too familiar with what to do if your ipod or cell phone gets wet! The best trick I have learned up to now is to immediately stick it in a bowl of rice for 24 hours. It is especially important to do this BEFORE trying to charge it. Even though it hasn't been quite 24 hours (I figured it was close enough) I just pulled my ipod out of the rice this morning. Put it on the charger ... looks like it is going to be fine!!! :) :) :)

Tim~

You make me laugh so hard!!! Yes, you have plenty of lateral rotators! I was talking about the ones in my lower extremities. Seriously, there is like 15 of them (likely more). I was referring to the ones in my right cheek and right hip. Our lateral rotators have to work hard when we run to keep us from falling flat on our face. :) :) :) Mine are really tight ... they must be working hard trying to keep my clumsy self upright! :)

Btw, I LOVE the article! Thanks for sending it. It has helped settle my nerves down. :)

Slick~

Can you believe SGM is so close??? :)

From Chad on Thu, Sep 23, 2010 at 12:21:47 from 168.177.153.5

I'm guessing the rice should not be cooked?

From Teena Marie on Thu, Sep 23, 2010 at 13:03:07 from 208.54.5.74

Chad,

Right, don't cook the rice. Rice is a great water absorber.

From RAD on Thu, Sep 23, 2010 at 16:10:09 from 67.172.229.125

Nice swim! uh, I mean run :)

From Kelli on Thu, Sep 23, 2010 at 20:16:15 from 71.219.65.246

Wait, you said 35-37 miles this week? That is 20 by Wednesday???

From Toby on Thu, Sep 23, 2010 at 22:17:45 from 66.133.97.196

Wowzer - that are some big miles! I would be so sad if my Ipod died in the middle of a run.

From Rhett on Fri, Sep 24, 2010 at 16:48:05 from 184.10.154.226

Running in the rain sounds fun.

From Teena Marie on Fri, Sep 24, 2010 at 20:17:38 from 174.23.122.157

Thanks all!

Rachel~

You are funny!

Kel~

I am still going to stay within my allotted mileage for the week. Barely did anything yesterday or today.

Toby~

I have revived my ipod!! :)

Rhett~

I love the rain ... but this was more than just your normal rain!! :) :) :)

From Kelli on Fri, Sep 24, 2010 at 20:32:14 from 71.219.65.246

Aren't you glad that I am here to play mileage police??? I just want to make sure that you are 100% for next Saturday, you are going to have an awesome race! NO MEDICAL tent this year (unless it is for blisters)!!!!
