Possibly the hardest workout I have ever done.

Met Ashton and Jeff to do the swim and mountain biking sections of the XTERRA long course at Snow Basin. This was my first open water swim ... and I STINK!!!! Seriously ... I was supposed to swim 1500 meters but ended up swimming roughly 1.5 miles because I can't swim in a stinkin' straight line in open water!!!! The boys could not stop laughing at me. I did get better at siting towards the end, but I definitely need some MAJOR work. As for the mountain biking ... I tell you, the course is absolutely brutal!! 3400 feet of climbing on an intimidating course. We took two breaks (about 5 minutes each) to down half of a clifbar (and breathe) during the biking portion and still it took everything out my legs.

If I am able to survive this race it will be a major accomplishment. My only goal is to finish (and I am not just saying that). This is so out of my comfort zone and is going to be a major push.

Have not been able to quench my hunger and thirst since we got off the mountain. CRAZY!

I was planning on getting in a run tonight but I am far too tired. This might just have to substitute for my long run.

Since you're the awesomest of the awesome, I have no doubt you'll do very well. Nice job, Teena!

Wow, Teena, It's good that you checked out the course to see what you're getting into. You're awesome and You will do great, I have no doubt.

Yeah, it sucks to be a dumb runner huh? :) I had this EXACT same experience when I went out for my half IM course preview. I realized what I was really in for despite all my training and it was ridiculous! After my 54 mile ride today, I feel a LOT better, but still...I think I'm a dumb runner. Us runners think we can do it all, because we run and that is harder than biking and swimming. HA! What do we know? nothin' I tell ya...nothin'! I'm glad you got a good preview, now that you know you can take on your training in a different matter and you will conquer the xterra in AWESOME Teena fashion, that we all know you will!! Eat up Teena, you've earned it! Oh, and my open water swim offer stands. Choose a day you want to meet me out there and I will make it work...seriously. Choose the day and time and it will happen! You'll be an excellent sight-er when we're done.

Bradley and Smoothers~ You always make me smile!! But, really, my only goal is to survive this one. I would love to be able to say that my goal is more than that but it is not. Looking at previous years' times I will likely be in the bottom 10-20%. I am totally okay with that. I really just want to see if I can do it. :)

Dale~ I am super glad that I checked out the course. Mostly because there are some pretty hairy-scary portions that I will be able to know are ahead and hopefully avoid a major disaster!!! :)

Rachel~ It was definitely harder than I thought it would be, but I am convinced that is because for the last 6+ years I have been training to be a runner. (Which I LOVE.) I think that someone who has spent the last 6+ years training to be a shorter distance triathlete or a serious mountain biker would think that running a marathon would be just as challenging. It's all about putting in the sport specific training (in my opinion). :) For example: there is no way I could ride 54 miles on a road bike(especially at your pace). I am in awe! Nicely done!! :)

Teena, I totally agree with you! I just call myself a dumb runner, because I thought the rest of it would be easy. But, if you train for it - it works! Like now for me 50 miles on the bike is doable, but I think you're crazy for mtn biking. No way do I have the quads or coordinataion to even attempt it! You should hear me scream when we go over little bumps/rocks that I think will kill me on the road :) Maybe it is because I'm so tall and a bit afraid of falling from such heights :)
