I thought the rule was if you did pool running you have to post a funny photo...or is that just Rivertonpaul?

From Rhett on Wed, Mar 31, 2010 at 13:30:41 from 74.41.249.102

I'm glad you are getting that leg recovered. You are being soooo very smart. Keep up the cross training and you will not lose an ounce of fitness between now and Boston.

From Kelli on Wed, Mar 31, 2010 at 14:01:40 from 71.219.89.155

Sorry to hear about the darn leg, but it will be back in no time, JUST TAKE CARE OF IT!!! You are smart, all will be well.

From RAD on Wed, Mar 31, 2010 at 15:55:06 from 67.172.229.125

ditto to Kelli's comment! I think you are being VERY smart about it. You aren't going to lose anything before Boston, especially with how hard you push your x-training. Peggy gave me the best marathoning advice I've ever come across: The last two weeks before a marathon you can do NOTHING to help yourself, only hurt yourself.

From MrsFIT on Wed, Mar 31, 2010 at 17:35:56 from 205.127.241.18

You know as well as I do that the benefits of pool running are closer to running on the road than one might think. Be SMART Teena!

From MarcE on Wed, Mar 31, 2010 at 21:43:50 from 206.225.68.76

I'm so proud of you sticking to your plan. You've come such a long way in the past year. In about 18 days all your hard work will pay off!!

SO GLAD you're sticking to the plan! EXCELLENT pool running and swimming. :) WAY to multi-task tonight on the bike. Hope the swelling is going down down down and no pain, yes?

Miss and love you!!!

From Teena Marie on Thu, Apr 01, 2010 at 09:16:43 from 174.52.45.85

SSF- Not good. :(

I am going to have to skip classes today and try and get into the doctor.

Wish I had your faith. Wish you were here.

From Andy on Thu, Apr 01, 2010 at 09:25:28 from 199.190.170.30

That doesn't sound good. Keeping my fingers crossed for you.

From Huans32 on Thu, Apr 01, 2010 at 09:28:00 from 138.64.8.52

Oh no. Pool running. Hope everything is alright. Hnag in there.

From Teena Marie on Thu, Apr 01, 2010 at 12:01:18 from 155.99.200.77

No worries. Last night I was up balling like a baby, but this morning I feel confident that with the proper help I can get this under control and be ready to roll at Boston.

I have an appt with a doc at 1:40. Unfortunately, Dr. Toronto is not on my insurance anymore. But, I heard the doc I am seeing is one who deals with anterior compartment syndrome on a regular basis for the REAL soccer players. I am hoping the rumor is true and that he will know exactly what to do. There is actually two doctors that work with each other. I'm not exactly which one my appointment is with.

All will be well!!! :)

From Andy on Thu, Apr 01, 2010 at 12:12:59 from 199.190.170.28

Did this come on this fast or were you just hiding it? Good luck with your appt.

From Teena Marie on Thu, Apr 01, 2010 at 12:16:45 from 155.99.200.77

Andy -- I had ZERO pain until Saturday. It came out of nowhere. Everything was going perfectly. I'm not sure what happened.

From Teena Marie on Thu, Apr 01, 2010 at 12:17:29 from 155.99.200.77

I worry that it coming on out of nowhere might be a bad thing. But I a sure hope not.

From Andy on Thu, Apr 01, 2010 at 12:19:02 from 199.190.170.28

It didn't come out of nowhere. It came from 22 miles at MP. Hopefully it is just a flare up and you can take care of with a few more rest days.

From Teena Marie on Thu, Apr 01, 2010 at 12:36:29 from 155.99.200.77

That's what I am hoping. My biggest fear though is that it is not getting better and last night I felt something tear away in there. It didn't hurt when it did it. But now it is making this awful sound-feeling type thing (hard to explain) any time I flex or release. And I have lost about half of my strength when trying to flex against the pressure of Ry's hand. Certainly that is just caused by the nerve be surrounded my so much inflammation, but it still scares me.

From Smooth on Thu, Apr 01, 2010 at 12:44:44 from 174.23.251.49

Keeping my fingers crossed that the doc. has assuring answers for you. I'm praying like crazy for you! Call me as soon as you've seen the doc. Love you!

From MarcE on Thu, Apr 01, 2010 at 12:53:07 from 129.188.33.25

Please say "April Fools"...please... :(

From Rhett on Thu, Apr 01, 2010 at 13:07:51 from 74.32.222.202

Teena, we'll all be praying that the doctor's appointment goes well today. Keep up the positive mind set and hopefully all will be fine.

Like Andy, I was worried when you ran so many mp paced miles... oh well, lesson learned.

From Kelli on Thu, Apr 01, 2010 at 14:40:52 from 71.219.89.155

Keeping my fingers crossed and sending prayers and good vibes your way!!!!

From Teena Marie on Thu, Apr 01, 2010 at 19:14:01 from 166.70.177.6

Thanks everyone!!! Your support and encouragement mean the world to me.

Just got back from the doc's. Loved him. It was wonderful because he was a runner as well, but mostly runs trails and the ultra distances.

The problem is multi-faceted. Anterior Compartment Syndrome (like I already knew)and stupid tendonitis and crepitus. The plan of action is more soft-tissue work and ultra-sound on a daily basis, and an iontophoresis patch, along with more taping, stretching, and anti-inflammatories. He feels there is a good chance that I will be feeling much better by Boston if I continue to not run or do any crosstraining that causes pain. So ... onward and upward until I get let everything out at Boston! :)

I am feeling optimistic, but am worried that I will lose fitness (despite what everyone is telling me). I think that is a natural worry. What I do know is this: I had the best training season ever for me and so hopefully that will still come in play come race day. :)

Thanks again everyone. I truly appreciate all of the kind words.

From Andy on Thu, Apr 01, 2010 at 20:06:46 from 198.60.114.178

Sounds like you are being taken care of by somebody who knows what they are doing. Realistically, you will lose some running fitness no matter how much cross training you do. You have had your best training cycle ever and despite a little loss of fitness you are still better prepared now than you ever have been. No need to worry. You are and will continue to be in great shape for Boston.

From Brent on Thu, Apr 01, 2010 at 20:35:03 from 76.8.201.223

From cheryl on Thu, Apr 01, 2010 at 21:08:57 from 67.166.68.69

Hi Teena--

Don't worry about losing fitness. I was injured once and pool ran and biked a lot, then ran a 5K and was surprised that I had one of my best times ever. I really think pool running helps a lot. Good luck!!

From Kelli on Thu, Apr 01, 2010 at 22:06:44 from 71.219.89.155

CREPITIS???? That is a new one!

You take care and you will be fine. You are well trained and ready to go, just get feeling better. I still think a PR (and a dream time) will occur.

From Rhett on Fri, Apr 02, 2010 at 11:49:20 from 74.32.219.227

Teena, sounds like you are in good hands and have a good plan to be ready for Boston. You are in such awesome shape, you are going to do great at Boston. Just get that leg better.

We'll be sending healing vibes your way for the next couple weeks. Remember that part about no cross training that causes any pain.

From Smooth on Fri, Apr 02, 2010 at 16:52:26 from 174.23.251.49

SSF ~ Hope you're following doctor's order! I'm praying that your young leg will respond to this intense PT and "heal" (don't know what to call it since you're not really injured,,,de-inflammed?) up FAST.

Have a GREAT Easter weekend and enjoy Midway with your cute family. I LOVE YOU!

From Teena Marie on Fri, Apr 02, 2010 at 19:21:20 from 63.226.93.26

Andy -- It is so crazy how my mind works. I already feel like I am losing fitness and getting flabbier by the minute. I know that is crazy ... but it's what my mind is telling me. I keep trying to argue with it but I am losing!!!

Brent -- You are always so positive!!! Thank you for reminding me of the fantastic time I will have there regardless! :)

Cheryl -- Hi!!! You know that I always LOVE to hear from you. I really want to start pool running more but the extention and dorsi-flexion causes the pain to worsen. It seems like the bike and the elliptical reduce both of those movements. However, the PT I work for showed me how to tape up differently to minimize those movements, so I wonder if the pool running would be more accomadating now. I sure hope so, because I do believe that is the best cross-training when you can not land run. Any thoughts?

Kel -- Crepitus: It's just a fancy word that means my tendons make this ugly crackling noise as the lengthen and shorten because there is not enough lubricant around them. At least that is how it was explained to me. It was that noise/feeling that initially really freaked me out because I thought something was tearing away from something. Nope ... just a ton of stupid friction.

Rhett -- Thanks for the words of encouragement! I feel unbelievable honored having the coverboy of GQ saying such nice things to me!!! :) (Please do send those positive healing vibes ... I need them!)

SSF -- If anything can heal me it is your prayers!!!! You amaze me!!!! :) We are in Midway right now. The stinky thing is that I have so much studying to do (that is what I am doing right now, can't you tell?). But I'm hoping to get enough done that I can take the evening off and chill with the fam!!! :) :) :) Love and miss you!

From Smooth on Fri, Apr 02, 2010 at 19:26:42 from 174.23.251.49

You're such a diligent student! Chill and relax this evening! Miss you and your kids sooo much! :)

From Kelli on Sat, Apr 03, 2010 at 15:56:38 from 71.219.92.128

Hmmmm, I think that is what I have in my knees. It sounds like how they explained it, but they did not give it a name, so who knows!
