Nothing for me today. Got back from Provo not too long ago where Smo competed in her first USATF sanctioned event this year. She has amazed me with the way she has juggled 3 basketball teams and track. She has not been able to compete this year much secondary to ball tournaments. Since next weekend is the USATF Utah State Championship she really wanted to compete to gauge her level of readiness. She did AWESOME!!

Here are her results:

Sophia (13), 13-14 division

1500 meters - 5:26.xx, 1st place

* A new personal record by a fraction of a second. She finished with far too much gas in the tank, running her first two laps much slower than she likely should have. I wish they would have run the younger division with them since Tate Beasely is in the younger division and ran a 5:24.xx. They could have pushed each other and gone for broke! :-)

800 meters - 2:33.xx, 1st place

* This was a break through race for Smo! A personal best by 7 seconds. Regretting having too much left in the tank on her 1500 she decided to give it everything. They ran the boys with the girls for this event. Smo decided to try and stay close to to the leading guys which proved very effective. Her last 150 meters were AMAZING!! She finished neck and neck with the third leading guy and within a handful of seconds of the number one and two (official results show Smo actually beating the 3rd place guy by 1/100th of a second). It was AWESOME! And because I have zero shame when it comes to bragging up my kiddos here is the footage. She is in the bright yellow singlet. :-)

Hope that link works (since I am doing this on an ipad you will likely have to copy and paste it if you'd like to take a look).

For all of you who ran or raced today, I hope you loved it!!! :-)

Congratlulations to Smo! That is incredible. She must have gotten it all from her mom. :)

Are you training for a triathlon? It looks like you had a real solid week of training last week.

Rhett,

She definitely didn't get it from me. I have never been that fast!!!

Not training for anything specifically right now. I just love how I feel when I make the extra effort to get in the pool. I will never be a fast swimmer because I enjoy the whole sensation of feeling like I am gliding and stretching out my entire body in a smooth and weightless (or so it seems) environment. It's like riding the perfect wave. The problem is that sometimes it seems so inconvenient to get to the pool. Yet I am always glad when I do. You know?

I know what you mean about swimming. I'm only good about doing it when I'm training for a tri, but I can totally feel the benefits when I do it. It's just hard to find the time.
