Talk about spoiled rotten! All this race cost me was one Boston Creme Pie and a package of cookies!!! Thank you so much dearest friends for the lunch, dinner, hotel room, ride, and comped entry. :) :) :)

Quick prerace summary: Took a couple days off in hopes of restoring some energy to my legs. Not sure if it helped or if I would have been better off running a couple of short easy runs.

Had a BLAST on Friday with some of my favorite and most wonderful people: my SSF, her sweet hubby, Larry, Kathie, Doone, and Rhett (and their friends, Leslie and Ross). They are all amazingly INCREDIBLE! I am such a lucky girl! I could write a novel about how much fun we had. (Yet, us girls have made a pact: What happens on race weekend, stays in race weekend!)

Race summary: Started out too fast, but once the mile split showed up I quickly made adjustments. Around mile 7ish there is a turn-around point where you can see who is in front of you. Counted, I was in 12th (for women). Made a goal of being in the top 10 by 13.1 where I would see the half marathoners right before they started. Didn't know if it was doable but I wanted to give it a shot. Mission accomplished (barely)!!! :) It was BEYOND COOL to have the half marathoners cheering us on!!! I immediately saw Rhett, Kathie and Larry. Some other people yelled, but I'm not sure who it was. They made me feel like a ROCKSTAR!!! Good thing ... because the next 13.1 were going to be a struggle! :)

I knew it would not be long until the leaders of the half would pass me! Sure enough, come 15.75 miles Jeff Shadley and Rob Murphy came zooming by like no other! THEY LOOKED AWESOME!!! Just watching them run for those few seconds (they were quickly out of my sight) was extremely cool. A huge congrats to them both, taking the #1 and #2 spots!!! :) :) :)

Having many of the half marathoners pass me for the duration of the race was extremely challenging mentally. They all looked so fresh, and I was starting to feel the wheels come off. DANG! Also, since all of the downhill of this course comes during the first half, watching my average pace increase each mile was discouraging. I really wanted to run a sub 3:30, but by mile 19 I knew that was no going to happen. At that point I had a choice to make: take it easy and try and enjoy the remaining miles or continue to push and not have to deal with the disappointed of not giving it my all later. Decided to go with the latter. To keep myself honest I decided to surge 1/10th of a mile at every 9/10ths of a mile. Mentally, this helped me.

By mile 24.5 I knew if I could hang on that I could PR, the question was, would I be able to hang on? Fortuitously, that was almost the exact spot that I saw Bill Mandler! He was fighting an injury and had to back off of the pace! I was sad for him, but selfishly very happy to see him. "Bill," I said. "Can you get me to a PR?" He was AWESOME!!!! I told him what I needed and no longer did I have to look at my watch every 10 seconds. He took control and ran me in. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU, BILL!!!! :) :) :)

Garmin read 26.4 at finish.

ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC DAY!!!! My SSF, finished pretty (no Charlie today) taking 1st in her AG! Beautiful Kathie ran the half and took 3rd in her AG!!! The Amazing Doone ran her very first marathon in an amazing time with her hunk, Rhett running along her side the final 13.1 miles! Ross and Leslie looked like a million bucks after finishing their race, and Lowell walked away with grinning ear to ear placing 2nd in his AG as well!!!

A special thanks to Pocatello, Idaho!! What a wonderful race and wonderful people! So so so happy that I went! :) :) :)

*** AFTERTHOUGHTS: I wonder if I would have been able to swipe another vodka/oj mixture at mile 20, like I was able to at PCM, if I could have hit that sub 3:30!!!!???? Hmmmmmm ....

L to R: Ross, Leslie, Kathie, Doone, Smooth, Rhett, Teena

Bill Mandler and me! (Thanks again, Bill!)

Nice Job Teena! Congrats on the 8th place finish, and more importantly, on the strength you showed by choosing to battle through the race. You earned your PR!

From Teena Marie on Sun, Sep 05, 2010 at 01:34:33 from 174.52.45.85

SSF~ YOU ARE THE BEST!!!! I am so glad that you are not sick of me yet!!! (And that Larry is willing to put up with me. Seriously, he is incredible. I can see why you married him!)

The best part of running on these marathons this year is the time I am able to spend with you! Yet ... I am still not running Spanish Fork. HOWEVER, I will GLADLY do lunch!!!! :) :) :)

Love you so much! :)

From Teena Marie on Sun, Sep 05, 2010 at 01:35:47 from 174.52.45.85

Michelle~

Thank you so much! You are always so nice and supportive (even though your training runs are a 100 times faster than my pr pace)!!! You are so AWESOME!!!

From DonGardinero on Sun, Sep 05, 2010 at 01:49:30 from 75.162.181.230

Congrats to you for everything!!! Wow, free race, good friends AND a PR. It doesn't get any better than that!!!

Huge congratulations on the PR. 3:25 at St. George?

From jtshad on Sun, Sep 05, 2010 at 08:25:16 from 69.20.183.178

Congrats on the PR! You looked great when we passed you, thanks for the encouragement!

It was great meeting all of you in person, finally.

I ended up not having to leave before the ceremony, sorry I didn't get a chance to come back and chat some more.

Keep running strong and I will hopefully see you at SGM!

From jtshad on Sun, Sep 05, 2010 at 08:28:15 from 69.20.183.178

I kept seeing a guy at the start who looked familiar (it was Rhett) at the HM start but wasn't sure that was him and didn't take the chance to say hi, bummer! (too focused on the race I guess).

From Rob Murphy on Sun, Sep 05, 2010 at 08:39:58 from 24.10.248.6

Congratulations again on the PR and all the support. I feel the same way about the race and will definitely be back.

We had breakfast for dinner last night and Ann cooked up the yummy hash browns in our free potato bag. That race just keeps paying off!

From Tom Slick on Sun, Sep 05, 2010 at 10:36:02 from 69.171.174.64

Way to go girly girl.....but for the life of me I can't see where you listed your time???? that vodka/OJ drink is called a "screwdriver".

From Teena Marie on Sun, Sep 05, 2010 at 10:37:40 from 174.52.45.85

Dale~

It was SO SO SO much fun! It was great having you call Smooth while we were all in the car. I hope you are feeling better. Stupid flu!!!

Andy~

Thanks!!! Someone needs to help me figure out what to shoot for at SGM. My goal is sub 3:30. If I could run a 3:27 I would be ecstatic. I have no idea what is realistic though. 3:32 was TOUGH yesterday. I really thought that I could do it ... but I couldn't pull it off. So who knows. You would have been proud of your harem though! We tried to represent you well. :) :) :)

Scott~

Thanks! It was so much fun running a race that I knew very little about. I was extremely impressed with everyone there.

Tim~

A big thank you!!! I really need to figure out how to run a marathon at a sub8 pace though. I want it so badly!!! So close, yet so far away. Dang.

Jeff~

It was my pleasure to be able to cheer you boys on! Having you two zoom by the way you did made me feel like I was jogging! Then again, my pace for you is jogging!!! :) :) :) Hope to see you at SGM. If you have any more advice on how I can improve before now and then I would be so grateful. :) Congrats again to you! :) (As for Rhett ... he is AWESOME!!! Next time you will know ... you two will hit it off immediately.)

Rob~

I'm thinking I will go and cook up those hashbrowns right now as part of our breakfast. Our family camped out in our backyard last night. They are still asleep. :) Oh wait, STINK, I just remembered it is fast sunday!!!! I should have cooked them up last night. :)

From Teena Marie on Sun, Sep 05, 2010 at 10:39:45 from 174.52.45.85

Slick!!! :) :) :)

The time is listed in the header.

8th place overall, 2nd in my division, time 3:32:13.

(I just can't get myself to say screwdriver -- it sounds kinda weird!!!!)

I think you would have really enjoyed this race. :)

From Tom Slick on Sun, Sep 05, 2010 at 10:51:40 from 69.171.174.64

Wow, there's your time, great run...I will probably do this one next year, I'm saving myself this year for SGM...don't want to burn out before I get my 2012 BQ...

From Teena Marie on Sun, Sep 05, 2010 at 10:55:00 from 174.52.45.85

Slick~

You will NAIL SGM.

I'm hoping that if I am smart these next 4 weeks that SGM can still be my goal race for the year.

From artichoke on Sun, Sep 05, 2010 at 12:06:13 from 97.126.184.64

Great job Teena! 3:20 or better at SGM for sure. Happy trails until then.

Excellent PR and race report Teena! I'd been emailing Lowell and he spilled the beans about your PR :) I was SO excited for you!! You are running SO strong this year, I think next month will grant you another PR. Onward and upward!

From DonGardinero on Sun, Sep 05, 2010 at 17:42:33 from 75.162.186.144

I have heard so many great things about Lowell, yet I've never met him or even seen a pictur of him. Is he real? Lol

From Bill Mandler on Mon, Sep 06, 2010 at 10:12:58 from 67.61.237.125

Teena,

Congrats on the PR!!! I was very honored to be a small part of it. See you in St. George!

From Kelli on Mon, Sep 06, 2010 at 15:36:33 from 71.219.102.155

Great job TEENA!!! You are having one heck of an amazing little summer full of marathons!! I would have really struggled having 1/2 marathoners passing me. I HATE being passed, it messes with the head! Why to get through that little challenge!

What marathon are you going to run between now and St George (which you are going to ROCK)????

From MarcE on Mon, Sep 06, 2010 at 15:56:18 from 204.16.82.120

Congrats, Teena! YOU ARE TRULY AMAZING! Nice PR...and just think, earlier this year you could barely even run. Marathoner chicks are tough!

From Toby on Mon, Sep 06, 2010 at 17:21:33 from 66.133.97.196

Teena - HOW in the WORLD do you look so darn cute after a race? I am always a sweaty mess! Great race report, pictures and way to go on the PR!

Congrats Teena on a great race and a new PR!!! I am still amazed you managed to PR 2 weeks after you ran PCM so fast. You looked great at the half when you flew by us. I knew you were going to have a great race. Thanks for helping me tape up my leg. It really helped. With a reall taper before SGM, you are going to have the race of your life!!!!!

From Doone on Tue, Sep 07, 2010 at 16:55:58 from 184.10.153.95

You are so FAST!!!!!Congrats on your PR just 2 weeks after your AG win. I am so impressed with all you do and train to get where you are. I am so glad you had a great weekend and a great race. It was fun, wasn't it? I am so glad I got to run on the same course as you and see your speediness. I loved getting to visit on Friday as well. It was a fun, fun time. Congrats again and get ready to kick some SGM butt!
