Just really happy right now.

Ran the race I wanted to. My pace did slow from mile 20 to the finish, but I was okay with that. We were all in the same boat ... it was HOT, and I was running the best I could for that moment. I turned on some tunes (compliments of Fonz's "help dull the pain" collection) and held on for dear life. :)

It was great to run a bit with Matt (best physiology prof EVER), Larry and Lyman. It was also quite satisfying to slap Slick as hard as I could on his buttocks around mile 22 (payback).

It has been a wonderful running season. I accomplished more than I thought I could. I PR'd and ended up placing 3rd overall in the Slam. The plaque was really nice and I received a $50 gift card to Wasatch Running as well. Nice!!!

As always, it was so good to spend time with friends. There were so many of us that met up at the buses that we almost filled one entirely by ourselves. VERY COOL!!

** Quick question: Why is it that each time I could tell that someone was about to throw up (happened 4 times) that I told myself: "Teena, don't look" AND THEN I PROCEEDED TO LOOK????

A HUGE CONGRATS TO

SO MANY OF YOU WHO KICKED

THAT COURSE'S TRASH!!!

Splits: 7:56, 7:52, 7:41, 7:33, 7:45, 7:16, 7:25, 8:58/Veyo, 8:24, 8:20, 8:34, 8:04, 7:39, 7:53, 7:22, 7:23, 7:34, 7:37, 8:12, 7:55, 7:17 (105 seconds ahead of schedule ... then BAM ... started to slow down considerably and walk through aid stations), 8:13, 8:16, 7:52, 8:12, 8:10, 1:43

Way to go Teena!! You really have made a strong showing of yourself in 2010! You've come back strong this year. Way to payback Slick for what he did to you at UVM. :) Congrats on your podium finish in the Slam -- finishing the Slam in itself is an amazing accomplishment! You totally rock!!!!!

From Toby on Sat, Oct 02, 2010 at 21:50:20 from 66.133.97.196

Paul,

Thanks! But I am definitely no where near as bosch as you!

Jody,

Hey! How are you? Thanks for the nice words.

Dale,

We missed you.

Allie,

You always make me feel so good about myself. :)

Rob,

Thanks! It has been a fun year for sure. Btw, your comment on my Friday's post made me laugh so hard. I suppose I'm just spoiled. :)

Marc,

Thanks. Wish you would have been here.

Toby,

Payback is wonderful. :) How are you doing?

Walter James,

It was great to see you. You, as always, rocked!

From Mike Warren on Sat, Oct 02, 2010 at 22:05:34 from 74.211.9.222

Teena, you totally deserved this race! I am very happy for you. Hope things heal up nicely. Was fun to talk (text) with you after the race! Rest a bit and you will come back even stronger.

From Bec on Sat, Oct 02, 2010 at 22:25:51 from 74.211.6.66

Congrats on your PR!! It sounds like you were quite the slam racer this year. Enjoy this moment and I am so incredibly proud and excited for you. Yeah!!!!

From Teena Marie on Sat, Oct 02, 2010 at 22:34:08 from 74.211.26.22

Mike~

I still can't believe your knee situation. DANG!!! Seriously. I'm taking it that you are still on crutches?!?!

It was great chatting/texting with you as well.

Take care of that knee!

(Have the docs said what kind of recovery time you are looking at?)

Bec~

You are AWESOME!!!!! :) :) :)

From Teena Marie on Sat, Oct 02, 2010 at 22:35:11 from 74.211.26.22

From artichoke on Sat, Oct 02, 2010 at 23:26:01 from 208.65.1.186

Way to go Teena Marie! A PR in that brutal heat? You did absolutley fantastic!

From fly on the Wall on Sat, Oct 02, 2010 at 23:57:21 from 166.70.192.189

Woo Hoo! :) Yours is the most upbeat and positive race report I've read!

Congrats on the PR. A PR with the heat and so much racing this season means that you could kill this PR next year, if you happen to have the time to train for it.

The Slick slap is making me LOL!

Congratulations on the SLAM. You are amazing!

Now enjoy your recovery and let me know when you are ready for another run in or around City Creek.

From MichelleL on Sun, Oct 03, 2010 at 00:02:10 from 70.58.32.131

Wow Teena, you got your sub 3:30 despite the heat--nice job! And 3rd in grand slam? that's awesome.

From Jon on Sun, Oct 03, 2010 at 00:07:41 from 74.177.99.190

Nice job!!!

From jtshad on Sun, Oct 03, 2010 at 09:32:06 from 208.117.127.110

Nicely done, I am so glad you had a good race. You have had a stellar year. Great job on the Slam award.

Keep running strong.

From Andy on Sun, Oct 03, 2010 at 10:25:54 from 208.65.1.186

Congratulations on the great year of running. You have really come a long way. You ran a great race and are one of the few who met their goal (I told you the goal wasn't aggressive enough).

From RAD on Sun, Oct 03, 2010 at 13:04:30 from 74.211.5.149

AMAZING job Teena! You've done such a good job staying healthy and listening to your body. You are such a great runner and deserve that placing in the slam!! Thanks again for making MY race amazing by using your amazing talents to tape my calf - you have NO idea how much that helped me!! thanks again and congrats on a wonderful race!!!

From Teena Marie on Sun, Oct 03, 2010 at 13:35:45 from 208.54.5.62

Artichoke,

Thanks! I am definitely happy.

Fly,

The Slick Slap was definitely a highlight! Can hardly wait to read all about your marathon. Then let's celebrate at City Creek!

Michelle,

Thanks! You have always been so encouraging.

Jon,

A huge thanks! I just looked at your blog. Dang you are FAST!!!

Jeff,

Thanks! I looked for you, but to no avail. You did AWESOME!!! Also, thank you SO much for all of your help. You have no idea how much I appreciate it.

Andy,

Thank you so much for everything. I value your frienship so much, and am so happy to have a new friend in Becky.

Btw, when I hit my 10 mile mark I thought, "Dang, I think Andy was right. I bet that if I push hard I can hit 3:25." I tried as hard as I could but lost it in the last handful of miles.

Rachel,

You did AWESOME!!!! I was more than happy to tape you up. Glad it helped.

From fly on the Wall on Sun, Oct 03, 2010 at 13:57:09 from 166.70.192.189

"Then let's celebrate at City Creek!" I'm looking forward to the celebration as much as my race (a touch of dread is mixed with the anticipation for my race). Can I talk you into running some trails? Then you can show Ry, or can he join us directly? Trails are so much fun and I'm really looking forward to more trail miles after all this road training.

From Teena Marie on Sun, Oct 03, 2010 at 14:23:52 from 208.54.5.78

Fly,

That would be AWESOME!!!! I'm in! We will work on Ry! :)

From Tom on Sun, Oct 03, 2010 at 15:02:27 from 74.211.9.52

From Maurine/Miles on Sun, Oct 03, 2010 at 21:34:08 from 97.117.58.8

Great job, Tina. So glad you had a good race.

Thank you so much for the taping job! You saved this and my next race with that.

From Kelli on Sun, Oct 03, 2010 at 21:37:04 from 71.219.65.246

WOW!!! I did not know that about the SLAM, that is AWESOME!!! I have to say that I was so worried about when you decided to do that---and you did GREAT! You have had an amazing season and deserve all of the glory!

From Teena Marie on Sun, Oct 03, 2010 at 23:34:37 from 174.23.122.157

Thanks Tom! :)

Maurine, No problem. You have my num. :) :) :)

Kel, it was a good run of runs! Can hardly believe that I let Smooth talk me into it. Sure am glad I did though! :)

From Scott Wesemann on Mon, Oct 04, 2010 at 00:46:59 from 75.165.249.90

Congrats on your race Teena. Your splits up to Veyo are very similar to mine, so I am sure we passed each other at some point. I saw, felt and smelled so many gross things yesterday. It was an experience for sure.

From TylerS on Mon, Oct 04, 2010 at 00:49:05 from 63.248.32.71

Great job Teena and FYI I guessed your time right on the money! I told Kelli that you would run a 3:27!! And you did! good job!

From Brent on Mon, Oct 04, 2010 at 07:33:38 from 168.178.30.219

T NA NA - iron woman, 1,000 commando points for the PR and another 1,000 for the slam placing. Lastly, you get another 1,000 sunshine girl commando points, best attitude on the blog. Keep on shining.

From LuzyLew on Mon, Oct 04, 2010 at 12:45:54 from 208.187.197.42

You are the champion tape-up-girl. What a great firaend. You taped everyone! Way to place in the Grand Slam, and accomplish so much this year. You and Smooth are so amazing. Great run, and congrats for not hurling, even after seeing everyone else (it's the heat, does it everytime). Way to go!

From cheryl on Mon, Oct 04, 2010 at 13:23:34 from 67.166.68.69

Awesome job, Teena!! Way to cap off a great year of training, and no real injuries lately, right? That to me is the best part, I hope to get there one day.

From Dustin on Mon, Oct 04, 2010 at 13:32:34 from 204.113.48.131

Great job on the race, sorry I didn't stay and talk longer at the finish. I got really sick Saturday afternoon.

From Smooth on Mon, Oct 04, 2010 at 16:03:47 from 67.41.235.104

So, I'll bite. What is "J SGM J"?

From timp on Mon, Oct 04, 2010 at 17:35:57 from 136.182.2.26

Thanks for asking that, Paul. I thought I was the only one who didn't know what those J's mean.

From JulieC on Mon, Oct 04, 2010 at 19:04:52 from 70.56.111.1

TEENA-- How awesome and your third or is forth marathon this year? Amazing. Stay healthy and relax for a bit. You are quite the inspiration. So glad you reached your next goal. Now for a new one right? : D

From Tom Slick on Mon, Oct 04, 2010 at 20:57:12 from 69.171.160.75

From Teena Marie on Tue, Oct 05, 2010 at 00:13:25 from 174.23.122.157

Scott~

Dang! We should have run together! :)

Tyler~

Can you predict what I am going to get on my Physics test??? WAIT -- I don't want to know. It's not going to be pretty!

Brent~

Thanks for the HUGE smile you just put on my face! :)

Tim~

Must be the Tang! :)

Les~

It's been a fun year for sure. It was fun seeing you!

Luz~

No kidding ... I have never seen so many runners throwing up at one race.

Cheryl~

I have been lucky with the injuries as of late (knock on wood). I attribute it to a couple of things though: First, I was pretty much in taper mode for the past 6 months (run a marathon and then taper for 3 weeks), hence very little speedwork. Second, working at a PT clinic and taking the classes that I am have given me a lot of insight to my body and its needs. That has helped as well. :) Sending you my best!! :) :) :)

Dustin~

Hope you are feeling better now. It was great to see you.

SSF~

I love you, too! Thank YOU for everything. I would have NEVER even have dreamed of doing what we did this year without you. You are the BEST!!!

Paul and Tim~

Hee Hee. That is funny! You must be looking at it on your phones! The Js are actually smiley faces on a normal laptop. It is the J in the wingdings font. :) :) :) So it actually reads: :) SGM :)

Julie~

If you count my midnight marathon with Smooth this year then SGM was my 7th marathon in 6 months. CRAZY!!!!! I'm just going to enjoy that accomplishment for a few days before considering a new goal! :)

Slick~

Thanks!!! :) :) :) You're the man! :) :) :)

From fly on the Wall on Tue, Oct 05, 2010 at 20:31:05 from 204.113.19.47

You will get an A on your physics test. Anyone can predict that.

From JohnnyV on Wed, Oct 06, 2010 at 10:59:12 from 204.124.13.151

Great Job! Congratulations on your sub 3:30 finish. If you decide to run slower give me a call.

From Kathie on Wed, Oct 06, 2010 at 17:01:17 from 63.248.105.188

Nice race Teena...you put in the work, ran smart and kick butt!

Cool beans, Teena!

From Rhett on Mon, Oct 11, 2010 at 19:22:48 from 184.10.154.226

Teena, I am so proud of you for PRing on a day when the conditions were so poor. Just think what you will do when you get a nice race day. Way to chick Slick. He deserved it. :)
