Debated on whether to post today or not. I am having a rough time and am quite sad. Selfishly, I have decided to post because so many of you on here have the ability to lift my spirits and make me smile.

It has been a hard couple of days. What I thought was merely a sinus infection has turned out to be quite a mess. I had a root canal some time ago, and whether this is where the problem began, or where it ended I am not sure. All I know is that the infection spread throughout the entire left side of my face and head.

After the endodontist re-did the root canal I was in hopes that things would improve. Unfortunately the pain continued to increase as well as the swelling. Last night the swelling had progressed to where my eye began to shut. Needless to say, I ended up with an IV pumping additional antiobiotics through my body, and will have additional IV therapy today and Thursday. (I was supposed to leave the insertion of the IV in but pulled it out last night in frustration, dang.)

Anyway, that is the update. I am still holding out hopes for PCM this Saturday, but am starting to have my doubts.

My family is calling me Cindy-Lou-Who from Jim Carey's Grinch. I guess that is better than Fat Face or Chubby Cheeks. :)

** On a positive note, I was able to sleep some last night and the pain is less today than it was yesterday. I was able to eat a yogurt this morning and am hopes of things improving by the hour. :) :) :)

Oh Teena! I am so sad for you! That sounds very serious. I'm sure now that they are pumping in those antibiotics you will continue to see a huge improvement. But running PCM on Saturday is the least of your worries....you just need to focus on getting better! If it works out to run on Saturday then that is just icing on the cake!

I've been going to mention to you that a teenage boy in our ward had to have major surgery on his leg for compartment syndrome. Did you get that all under control? This boy is the high school senior who plays all sports and is out for his final year. It's quite a serious thing.

From Tom Slick on Wed, Aug 18, 2010 at 10:04:08 from 168.179.157.36

Be careful with those monikers/nicknames, they might catch on. I like that Chubby Cheeks one!

You've got a couple more days for this situation to becone stable.

Try to relax and chill out and time will tell the tale. I don't think that the Vick's stuff will help this situation. If your condition gets better I don't think that your performance will suffer too much from the time off going into PC.

Again, relax and try to get some extra rest. I know thats a tall order with all the irons that you have in the fire at any given time.......

Oh Teena! I am SO sorry!! What a horrible thing to happen, especially days from PCM! If you don't feel good about racing it, just take it easy and run with Smooth. Seriously, it will be the run of a lifetime! It'll take the pressure off and she'll be there to help encourage you and take the pain away (who can feel anything but happy around sweet Smooth?).

I hope the antibiotics help and that you feel decent enough to simply get through the miles on Saturday, I know you've been looking forward to it and preparing for it for quite some time! Thoughts, prayers and love are with you!!

From Andy on Wed, Aug 18, 2010 at 10:14:00 from 199.190.170.22

The only thing you should be thinking about right now is getting the infection under control. What do the doctors think about the marathon? Would it be too much stress on your system?

From Teena Marie on Wed, Aug 18, 2010 at 10:19:58 from 174.52.45.85

Kim~

Thanks for the kind words. Yes, compartment syndrome is ugly. I have one doc that tells me to have the incision in the sheath and another that tells me to just try and manage it. How is the boy doing in your ward? The success rate is fairly high, but there is also a risk of permanent muscle and nerve damage.

Slick ~

This infection is messing up my plans!!! Why couldn't it have waited a week??? ;) Actually, much better now than a week before SGM when we have our final showdown!!! :) :) :)

Rachel ~

I have been thinking the same thing. I will just wait a couple more days before making any type of decision. If I don't start getting some more food in me I won't be running at all though. I just don't think it would be smart. Thanks for the encouraging words! :)

From Teena Marie on Wed, Aug 18, 2010 at 10:25:52 from 174.52.45.85

Andy ~

The doctors just laugh when I say I need to be *fixed* by Saturday. They won't give me a straight answer. They just say, "Let's see what the next couple of days bring."

I know if the swelling doesn't start to go down by this evening that I will have to see an oral surgeon to see if he/she can find anywhere they can cut to get drainage. Stink. Please oh please oh please let the swelling go down today. (I am optimistic that it will since I am on double dosage of antibiotics -- I am still taking them orally as well as intervenously now.) Keep your fingers crossed. :)

(The pain is definitely subsiding some. That HAS to be a good sign!!!! :))

From Smooth on Wed, Aug 18, 2010 at 12:01:27 from 174.23.203.161

Hey Cindy-Lou-Who! I wish you would let me come over! But may be it's best that you don't have visitors so you could just chill and relax and let the antibiotics does its job.

Rest, relax, eat, watch your favorite show, quit looking in the mirror. Have Payton read you some funnies. You will be all better in 24 hours. By Sat. you will be clear of infection and back to your pretty self.

PCM is no biggie. If you feel up to running, then run it as a Sat. long run, enjoy the fresh mountain air and the scenery. If you don't feel up to running PCM, then there's Pocatello where you can shine. Either way, life is good. Main thing is to take care of your body right now. This forced rest is probably doing you some good. I love you!

STINK! I am sending all my healing vibes your way. Try and get some sleep so your body can start to get better. Be careful if you decide to run Saturday.

From timp on Wed, Aug 18, 2010 at 14:17:29 from 129.188.33.26

I'm so sorry things got so bad, Teena. Just chill and let the antibiotics do their thing. You'll be all fixed up in no time, I'm sure.

From allie on Wed, Aug 18, 2010 at 14:49:15 from 174.23.182.80

wow. i am so sorry to hear about all of the complications. i hope everything can heal up quickly for you. take care, teena. :)

From JulieC on Wed, Aug 18, 2010 at 18:44:07 from 207.224.207.10

I am not one to tell you NOT to run the race...because I run when I would tell others not too. So my advice is this: If the swelling is down significantly by Friday afternoon and your head doesn't feel pressure, YOU MAY be able to race Saturday. If swelling down with pressure, run with Smooth. If swelling not down, do not race. It will only tax your system. Other advice: a good probiotic with the two most necessary bacteria-lactobacillus and bifidobacterium. No additives/preservative kind. Avoid too much sugar. And SLEEP, NAP and HYDRATE. No SWIMMING. Lastly, RELAX. Try not to overthink Saturday. Easier said then done. Good luck, HEALING VIBES SENT YOUR WAY. BTW what type of bacteria is your infection?

From DonGardinero on Wed, Aug 18, 2010 at 19:16:47 from 152.216.7.5

Hey Teena....When I had all that infection a couple of years ago, it kept moving around. One day it would be under the tooth, the next day it would be behind it, then under it again. Then one day it moved to the outside, just below the gum line and there was a huge bubble on my gum with infection in it. I was wondering if I could cut it open or poke it with a needle, but then it moved back under the tooth. A couple of days later, it moved back to the side and I took advantage and sterilized a razor blade and cut the bubble open. Amazingly, the infection finally went away. There was a significant loss of pain the very next morning. What can I say? The pain from the infection was so intense, that I didn't even mind cutting my gum open with a razor blade. Now, I'm not saying that's what you should do. I only did it because my dentist is a creep and wouldn't do anything for me. I even insisted that he pull the tooth, but he refused.

What a freak thing to happen! I do have to say that sometimes this things clear up fast, so i believe there is still MUCH hope for Saturday. You still have a few days, do not fret.

On a funny note, Emma had grapes in her cheeks today and she looked just like that picture you sent me!!!

From Teena Marie on Wed, Aug 18, 2010 at 20:30:41 from 174.52.45.85

Rhett, Tim and Allie ~

Thanks!!! I will try and chill and let the meds do their magic! :)

Julie ~

Thank you so much for the advice. I like it!!! I don't know what kind of infection it is. All I know is that they originally had me on Omnicef but now I am on an oral Z-pac and rocephin intravenously. I'm not even sure that they know what type of infection it is. They have not taken my blood or anything like that. Should they have? I have just been seeing my new endodontist and the IV therapy I have been doing at the local InstaCare.

Dale ~

Dang! That sounds icky!!!!

Kelli ~

I hope you are right. It has actually worsened since the pic I sent you. I'm hoping by tomorrow I will see some reduction in swelling. Pain-wise I am starting to feel a lot better (at least while I'm on the meds ... but yesterday even on the meds I was in a lot of pain). AND ... I can eat now! :)

From timp on Wed, Aug 18, 2010 at 20:35:16 from 66.167.50.74

glad you are able to eat again :) :) :)

Girl, I really feel for you. It sounds absolutely miserable.

From Teena Marie on Wed, Aug 18, 2010 at 20:39:49 from 174.52.45.85

Thanks Tim!!

It's just one of those silly things that get in the way!

Maybe I need more tang!! (I can't help but wonder if that was my body's way of telling me to pump in as much vitamin C as I could ... and it just came out in a Tang craving. Weird.)

From timp on Wed, Aug 18, 2010 at 20:43:13 from 66.167.50.74

long live the tang -- we get the walmart version. Its like in the crystal lite section - sunrise orange i think it is called. I know I shouldn't but I suck down about 2 quarts of that a day....I justify it with the vitamin C it gives me :)

you'll be better in no time. I always seem to get weird infections like once a year. at least these things aren't anything worse, right? blessings being counted right now...

Sorry to hear that you have been having problems. Hope I see you tomorrow and that you can run. Maybe I can get you to tape my knee before the race if you are there.
