I've noticed a giagantic difference between my consistency in workouts when I am blogging versus when I am not. So here's another attempt at putting my best foot forward (or at least a better foot forward). I'm still trying to get used to balancing working full time with all else (including the kiddo's schedules which seem to be getting busier and busier). You would think that since it has now been over a year that it would be old hat. Nope. But I'm trying. :-)

3.0 trail miles (up, up, up then down, down, down) with Ry and Smo (behind D-hills).

Did I happen to mention as part of my Mother's Day Ry committed to one more marathon. :-) :-) :-)

Joke that one of my patient's told me today went something like this:

Q: What do you do if you cross a half parrot half shark specimen?

A: Who cares. But if it says, "Polly wants a cracker you better well give the *#@! thing a *#@! cracker!"

(And he used the explicitives without shame and then proceeded to laugh straight from his belly. I kid you not! It totally cracked me up!)

I LOVE it when people laugh so whole-heartedly!!!!

Wow! It's good to have you back. I know you're busy and all, but try to find 2 minutes a day for the FRB.

OK?

Thanks, Matt, Dale and Rob! :-)

Nice to hear from all of you. I freely admit that I thought I had umph enough in my soul to keep my workouts consistent without the use of a blog. Unfortunately, it became way to easy to skip workouts on account of my pitiful excuses. :-)

I'm not looking for anything crazy, just enough exercise and push to make me feel like me sans the excuses. :-)

Nothing for me today. Got back from Provo not too long ago where Smo competed in her first USATF sanctioned event this year. She has amazed me with the way she has juggled 3 basketball teams and track. She has not been able to compete this year much secondary to ball tournaments. Since next weekend is the USATF Utah State Championship she really wanted to compete to gauge her level of readiness. She did AWESOME!!

Here are her results:

Sophia (13), 13-14 division

1500 meters - 5:26.xx, 1st place

* A new personal record by a fraction of a second. She finished with far too much gas in the tank, running her first two laps much slower than she likely should have. I wish they would have run the younger division with them since Tate Beasely is in the younger division and ran a 5:24.xx. They could have pushed each other and gone for broke! :-)

800 meters - 2:33.xx, 1st place

* This was a break through race for Smo! A personal best by 7 seconds. Regretting having too much left in the tank on her 1500 she decided to give it everything. They ran the boys with the girls for this event. Smo decided to try and stay close to to the leading guys which proved very effective. Her last 150 meters were AMAZING!! She finished neck and neck with the third leading guy and within a handful of seconds of the number one and two (official results show Smo actually beating the 3rd place guy by 1/100th of a second). It was AWESOME! And because I have zero shame when it comes to bragging up my kiddos here is the footage. She is in the bright yellow singlet. :-)

http://youtu.be/DWX-27BxSeA

Hope that link works (since I am doing this on an ipad you will likely have to copy and paste it if you'd like to take a look).

For all of you who ran or raced today, I hope you loved it!!! :-)

Congratlulations to Smo! That is incredible. She must have gotten it all from her mom. :)

Are you training for a triathlon? It looks like you had a real solid week of training last week.

From Teena Marie on Tue, Jun 02, 2015 at 22:54:02 from 24.49.99.147

Rhett,

She definitely didn't get it from me. I have never been that fast!!!

Not training for anything specifically right now. I just love how I feel when I make the extra effort to get in the pool. I will never be a fast swimmer because I enjoy the whole sensation of feeling like I am gliding and stretching out my entire body in a smooth and weightless (or so it seems) environment. It's like riding the perfect wave. The problem is that sometimes it seems so inconvenient to get to the pool. Yet I am always glad when I do. You know?

From Rhett on Wed, Jun 03, 2015 at 10:33:45 from 24.121.249.174

I know what you mean about swimming. I'm only good about doing it when I'm training for a tri, but I can totally feel the benefits when I do it. It's just hard to find the time.

I agree. I've been doing a lot of trail running the past few months and I have re-fallen into love with running because of it. I don't go as fast, but like you said, I feel so invigorated afterwards and feel like I get a great workout from it.

Plus trail running, hiking, etc. is a GREAT way to fight osteoporosis. So many different angles of force to stimulate bone hardening. Or so I have heard! ;-) Funny the things you think about once you hit your 40s!

* One of the great things about my work setting is that although I am at an outpatient orthopedic clinic I also get to see other types of patients. The reason for this is that many individuals do not want to take the extra half an hour to travel to St. George, especially when they need to be treated two or three times a week. One such patient is seeing me for cardiac rehab. This particular patient is hilarious (at least I think so). Since we are not a cardiac rehab clinic, don't have an EKG, etc., I have to take extra percautions for his safety and monitor his vitals closely during exercise. Well, today when he was during a more strenous part of his session he grabbed his heart and let out a huge gasp. Of course, within a fraction of a fraction of a second I had literally leaped to his side (likely faster than I have ever moved before). Immediately he began laughing hysterically. "Gotcha" he kept saying. Dang him! Probably the highest my heart rate has been in years!!!!

Dang, you are being so good with all your extra exercises. It makes me feel guilty for not doing mine more.

Since you brought up work. What do you no about ASTYM? I think that is how you spell it. I had a PT who is my patient yesterday telling me I should do it on my calf since it has become a chronic on and off again problem.

From Teena Marie on Fri, Jun 05, 2015 at 20:09:42 from 166.137.246.87

Rhett,

I'm a big fan of instrument assisted soft tissue mobilization in the right hands. There are two techniques that are above the rest in my opinion: ASTYM and Graston. Both require certifications and so when you go to someone who is certified you should be getting a clinician who knows what they are doing. I happen to be Graston certified, but that is because that is the courses, certification and tools that Intermountain Healthcare was willing to pay for me to obtain. Although most clinicians will argue that whatever certification they have is better than the other I happen to believe that both techniques are incredible and that more important is that you have a clinician that knows their stuff. In short, if your patient is a good PT then absolutely, without hesitation.

Nothing for me but a whole lotta something for Smo and Sherm!!

Today was the USATF Junior State Championship in Provo, Utah. Both Smo and Sherm raced, and both Smo and Sherm placed. In fact, they both took 1st in both of their races. The stars were aligned in there favor.

Sherm's (12) results:

100 meters: 14.23 s, 1st place.

* This race was a shocker since this is actually one of Sherm's slowest times. He fiddled around with the blocks for a bit and didn't feel like they were sticking right. He got frustrated and pushed them back and decided to run without them. His start was crazy slow. Somehow he pulled it out in the end though by .21 seconds.

200 meters: 28.86 s, 1st place.

* This was closer to Sherm's speed, but he still doesn't have it to where it was last year when he trained. In fact, it wasn't until this past week that Sherm decided to run track again. Basketball had ended and he was laying around the house FAR too much. So with a little encouragement he decided to give track another go. :-)

Sophia's (13) results:

800 meters: 2:35.7, 1st place.

* Roughly two seconds from her best time. The 2nd place girl came in at 2:41.48 and so she didn't have anyone to challenge her for the spot. Perhaps that would have gotten her another couple of seconds. But still a fantastic effort and spectacular race.

1500 meters: 5:18.78, 1st place.

* HUGE PR for Smo on this race. Her previous best was last week at a 5:26.xx. She looked CRAZY strong. 2nd place ame in at 5:32.24, so once again not sure if she really got into that deep place where you pull everything out. No worries though, I'm sure that will happen in a few weeks at Region (Utah, Montana, Idaho, Wyoming).

Great day!!!!!

Sherm don't need no practice! He's a natural. If I'm calculating in my head right. Smo is running 1500m at a faster pace than 800m. Am I wrong? She must have some crazy endurance gene…wouldn't surprise me, knowing her mother.

From Teena Marie on Sun, Jun 07, 2015 at 20:14:43 from 24.49.99.147

I think you are calculating it wrong, right? 2:35 x 2 would be a 5:10 mile, where her 5:18 1500 meter would be more like a 5:40 mile. :-)

Either way, she is crazy fast!

10 miles in Midvale, Utah. Was fun running in my old stomping ground but I was shocked at how much more labored my breathing was. BOO!!! But one of those miles was crazy fun as Smo, Sherm and Livvy came along. :-)

Through my run I couldn't help but smile (even though I felt the miles were much more difficult than usual). I'm sure this was because I was thinking about Smo and Sherm's incredible performances yesterday (see June 6th entry). Seriously, my kiddos amaze me. I admire the way that Sophia puts so much into her dreams. I feel like I have a front row seat watching her take bite after bite into each one. I love it!

Rhett,

Ry herniated a disc. We are finally getting to the point where he can run a bit. Nothing crazy, but better than nothing. About a month or so ago (give or take ... it's all a blur now) Ry became a bit fanatic about exercise and went Weekend Warrior to the umpteenth degree on me. Oh yeah, it was Memorial weekend. It's all coming back. Anyway, at the end of the day (after running and mountain biking) he decided to play 2 on 2 with a few of the kids out front. Went for a block and came down hard and in a crazy position. No good!!! Herniated a disc. Luckily I know several of the docs here (and a pretty decent PT ;-)) so we were able to treat it agressively rather quickly. He's not back to normal, but getting closer and closer each day. :-)

Rob,

I LOVE watching my kids do their thing. Now about your 14 laps at the HS track ... WHAT IN THE H?!?!? Please tell me you were changing directions periodically!! ;-) And 20 on your own ... to me that is crazy tough. You must have will and determination out of the wazoo!!!

From Rob Murphy on Mon, Jun 22, 2015 at 19:06:10 from 24.10.247.181

No, 14 miles. That's 56 laps.

No running for me but Smo and Sherm had the USATF Region Junior Olympics (Utah, Montana, Snake River, and Wyoming.) This year it was at UVU (making traveling a little bit better), but man alive was it hot! Sophia was not happy with her times but considering she had played literally 20 basketball games on the high school Freshman and Sophomore teams (10 each) the week before (and she is only 13, but it was at the Dixie Camp and so they asked her to participate: her first true love is basketball, second is track) I thought she did AMAZING! She knew before hand that if she chose to participate in the camp, let alone on two teams, that it would affect region. She weighed the pros and cons and made her decision. There was no right or wrong decision. She gave up a basketball camp to compete at State and so this time she decided to attend the camp and be okay with how it would affect her times. Although she insisted that she would be okay if she did not run her best times when making the decision, I believe it was harder than she thought it would be when the girls who beat her were the same girls she beat at State. Great learning experience for sure! :-) And, like I said, I still think she did FANTASTIC!! As for Sherm, well let's just say that he was ecstatic. That boy has so much natural ability that it is crazy. For only training for one month what he pulled off was much more than we had all expected.

Sophia:

800 meters, 3rd place with a 2:38.05 (ran a 2:33.xx at State this year)

1500 meters, 4th place with a 5:23.64 (ran a 5:18.xx at State this year)

Sherm:

100 meters, 2nd place with a 13.38 sec (1st place was also a 13.38)

Not sure how they determined who was actual first unless they looked at a photo finish or something. Of course, as Sherm's mom, I am certain that his chest crossed the finish line first! ;-))

200 meters, 3rd place with a personal best of 27.20 sec.

HOLY CRAP!!! The townhome we rented (that looked quite nice on the internet) is a DIVE!!! NOT GOOD!!!

It was late at night when we arrived. We couldn't see everything but when we approached the front door it reaked of cat poop with stray cats everywhere! It was late and not much we could do. Decided to try and fall asleep quickly and then re-evaluate in the morning.

We absolutely could not stay there! With a lot of scrambling we managed to make other arrangements. We had to split it up into two different places because everywhere was booked but we made it happen!! Hallelujah!! We are all laughing our heads off now but trust me, it was NASTY!!!

17 miles in the Sunset Beach area (8.5 on my own and then 8.5 with Ry). Felt pretty dang good! Nice and easy and wonderful.

Super fun run this morning with awesome company: Ry, Shelbey and Smo. Shelbey amazes me. She is my PTA and played collegiate soccer at Utah State. The most she has run over the past year is 5 miles in a row. Today she ran nearly 12 and hardly broke a sweat!! She may be a little sore tomorrow but dang it was fun having her with us (Smo ran us hard in the final 2). Seriously LOVED this morning!!!

13 miles (AP 7:37) with Becky on the last half of the SGM course.

I have done practically no downhill running since Boston. It was evident today. Only a few miles into it and I started having gut issues. It wasn't horrible, but bad enough that it didn't feel good. I had Mexican food with Shelby at Coyote Charros the day before (as well as had downed a bunch of dark chocolate covered mangos that I bought from Costco). I was definitely feeling it all. BOO! Fortunately Becky's company helped me through and we found an outhouse type facility around the Snow Canyon area for a quick pit stop. Now today (Sunday) my calf muscles are letting me know that I absolutely need to get some downhill work in. A definite wake up call! (I have done occasional hill work but I'm always pushing hard up and jogging back down.)

So happy to have had Becky to push me. :-)

First 15 miles with Ry finding uncharted territory to explore, ha! Actually, we just ran up past Staheli's farms and found this uphill winding dirt road. We followed it until we could follow it no longer when it ended at some sort of cement factory on one side and a Desert Habitat Reserve on the other. Pretty fun, truthfully. Then back down to the Virgin River Trail -> Maverick -> Little Valley Sunrise Loop. Dropped off Ry and headed out for another one mile while he woke up Smo for me whom accompanied me for another 3 miles running our medium Sunrise Loop. Fun run!

Looking back, had I known that I was 1/2 mile away from 50 miles for the week I would have likely added that 1/2 mile on. Oh well! Another day! :-)

From Teena Marie on Sat, Aug 15, 2015 at 11:23:40 from 166.137.8.30

Rhett,

Hmmm ... that's a loaded question. So subjective.

Definitely not as strong as I was in 2012, but stronger than some other years. I have no idea what kind of time I should expect. I have been doing the vast majority of my miles pretty dang slow. With that said, I have zero niggles (knock on wood).

How is the HR training going for you?

I've been doing 100% of my running slow. It definitely keeps me healthy. Only time will tell if it is a successful training strategy for me but I plan on sticking with it at least until my 50 mile race in January.

SCARY SCARY SCARY run! My heart was beating out of my chest!!!

Miles 1-2 with Smo: Small Sunrise Loop. Just enjoying my time with my girl!

Miles 3-6 by my lonesome. Sun was just coming up. I had just passed my turn around point a little past George Washington Charter School. Headed south on 3000 East towards home. Suddenly I see a coyote walk out of the foliage. We were less than 50 feet away from each other on the same side of the road. He (or she) sees me at about the same time I see him. We both stop dead in our tracks and don't move. I can see a truck coming up the road. I think to myself (in a matter of milliseconds) that if I didn't move that the noise of the truck would scare the coyote away. (Side note: at this time I didn't know it was a coyote. From the limited experience I have had with animals of the wild I assumed that it was a wolf, don't ask me why.) Unfortunately the truck stopped about 100 yards before approaching us. I saw a man just sitting in the driver's seat. I thought perhaps he saw the wolf/coyote and was contemplating what to do. When he didn't immediately get out I started very slowly waving my arms at him to indicate that I needed help. Neither the man nor the coyote moved. I took a deep breath and began to cross the street and then slowly proceeded towards the truck. The coyote did not move. In a matter of seconds (which seemed like forever) I arrived at the truck. The man states, "Were you being attacked by bees?" I said, "NO! There's a wolf right there!!!!!!" He stated, "I saw you swerving your arms all over and I thought you were being attacked by bees!" By this time I am safe behind the man's truck. The man then proceeds to tell me that it is a coyote and not a wolf. My heart was still beating far too fast but a sense of relief flooded over me. I proceeded to finish my run home. By the time I got to my door my fear of the coyote was transferred to anger at the man! My thoughts, "What??? He thought I was being attacked by bees and he just sat in his truck watching!!!" Seriously, what is that all about?

Anyway ... that was my run this morning!

4 hours and 15 minutes mountain biking in Brian Head!!! Crazy fun the first couple of hours and then kind of scary the remaining 2.25 hours. Ry and I got lost somewhere between the Lowland Pools/Dark Hollow area. We thought we heard moose but ended up be surrounded by about 30 black angus who wouldn't let us pass. As we tried to find a new route we got crazy lost. Ended up having to find our way to the highway and then ride 6 crazy uphill miles back to our car. We had run out of fluids, had no sunscreen on, and were plain ill-prepared. But at least I was with my love celebrating 19 years!! Shelbey was so great and insisted that she stay with our kiddos so that we could get a quick getaway. Spontaneous moments sometimes make the best memories!! 5 fantastic miles on the Virgin River Trail with Shelby!! Crazy how Shelby and I spend 40+ hours together at work each week and then enjoy running and hanging out at the house in the wee morning hours and/or late in the evenings! I would have never guessed that my PTA would end up being one of my closest friends. I have had a hard time really connecting on a deep friendship level with anyone in SG until Shelby. Lots of people I consider friends here, but no one that I could really share my deepest thoughts, fears, etc. with without fear of judgement. This is likely because when I'm not at work I want to hang with Ry and the kiddos. I thought I'd become close with some fellow runners, but it just didn't happen as easily as I thought it would. Hill repeats 5 and 6 increasingly stole little pieces of my ego bit by bit.

When repeat number 7 presented itself I told myself that come h or high water I was going to stay with Smo. Rhett~

It will be interesting to see how SGM goes. The majority of my runs have been significantly slower than any other training cycle. With that said, my occasional speedwork does not appear to be suffering. I am hitting the paces that I want to hit, so who knows! It'll be interesting to say the least. With that said, I have absolutely no pain in any part of my body right now. Knock on wood! :-)

8.5 miles with Ry up to Staheli Farms and then south on Washington Fields road then back home.

It is a cut back week and the schedule I am loosely following has the majority of runs this week at 5 and 6 miles. However, my legs really wanted to run further and so I added on a few with Ry.

I have been running the vast majority of my runs much slower than I have over the past several training cycles. I have no idea what to expect come marathon time. It sure has been nice running with zero aches, pains, niggles, etc. though. And the best part, enjoying so many miles with Ry. :-)

3.5 miles with Ry and 2 miles with Smo! Surely you can't tell which miles were with that crazy girl of mine! I am still in awe how a 13 year old girl can run consecutive mid 7s to mid 6s in a row and when I ask her what effort it required she responds, "Meh, maybe a 7/10." I obviously did not keep up with her the last quarter of a mile when she took off and in 400 meters spread the gap between me and her to over 15 seconds when I was running at full capacity. DANG!

14 miles with Ry at Little Black Mountain

A neighbor of mine who runs HS track and cross country (and is CRAZY fast) was telling me how the cross country coach has the kids do the majority of their miles on trail/dirt roads. He then proceeded to tell me about Little Black Mountain. Ry and I have tried a couple of times to find it and finally did today. Pretty dang cool considering that you run right up to over 800 petroglyphs. We took a short break to look at some of them. I was in awe as I was trying to wrap my mind around the history involved there. I wish I could read petroglyphs. What stories those rocks tell!!!

5.5 easy miles

2 miles with Livvy, nice and easy. Livvy has Beta Thalassemia Intermedia which makes it hard for her to get enough oxygen sometimes (since one of the polypeptides on hemoglobin is missing she does not have as much of a capacity to attach oxygen to her red blood cells). Today seemed to be a harder day for her. With that said, Livvy is probably the least fit in our family (also secondary to her lack of energy sometimes) so it may have had more to do with that than anything. It's kind of a rough cycle for her. She often doesn't have enough energy to exercise, which then leads to her being less fit, making exercise even harder. I may take her to a blood specialist to see if there is anything we can do other than the supplements they advised us to give her when she was an infant. She is so freaking cute though! She is also really liking cheerleading but gets crazy tired when they do conditioning. There has got to be something else that we can do. :-)

After running with Livvy I ran an additional 3.5 miles on the trails up above Greystone. Short rocky trails, but still fun.

Then ...

60 minutes mountain biking with Ry up in the Bear Claw Poppy Trail, specifically the Stucki Loop.

From Teena Marie on Wed, Sep 09, 2015 at 21:19:54 from 199.79.53.13

Slick, the only thing I really have planned is SGM. Although Shelbey and I are toying with the idea of a half ironman 2 weeks before Boston, then Boston, then another half ironman 2 weeks after Boston. Just not sure I am capable of something like that.

morning:

9.25 miles with Ry this morning. You could really see the fire in Pine Valley in the pitch dark. Scary.

evening:

2.75 miles by my lonesome with my thoughts on the dark roads. I'm used to the dark roads in the morning, not in the evening. Much more traffic and so I had to be a bit more careful.

My legs felt a bit tired and heavy tonight. This should be my highest mileage week of this training cycle if I get in the miles I am supposed to on Friday and Saturday. Tomorrow is my rest day. :-)

So far this training cycle absolutely zero niggles, pains or aches. I am sure that has to do with all of the slower miles I have been running. Still have no idea how it will play out come race day. Trying to set a race goal but I have no idea what to expect. I don't want too shoot to high and be disappointed, and yet I don't want to shoot too low and self myself short. Go figure. :-)

Miles 1-7: I don't know if I should really count these first 7 miles as marathon pace (even though they were marathon pace) because they were on a treadmill while Shelbey and I were at the gym waiting for the temps to go down outside. I tried to simulate the first 7 miles of SGM on the TM with elevation and pace changes.

Miles 8-10.15: Up and down 1450 South with Shelbey with our matching flashing arm bands that Lowell bought us. Thank goodness we had them because it was basically pitch black by the time we started around 9:40ish p.m. Had a couple near falls but all was well and lots of fun! This was done at a nice easy pace just enjoying our conversation.

Usually my rest day is Thursday. But for someone reason tonight I just decided to run the 10 miles that I had planned for tomorrow morning. I think I will just run a few easy with Smo before work in the morning and call it good. If all goes well and I can muster up 3 miles tomorrow and 22 on Saturday then I will hit my goal of 70 running miles this week for the peak of my training season with absolutely zero pain, zero ibuprofen, zero niggles, etc. Knock on wood!! :-)

Today I got my weekly mileage slightly above where I was hoping!! This may sound silly but I am super happy. It has been difficult for me to muster the motivation and dedication to hit the higher miles since working full time. I know lots of people do it all the time but it has been an adjustment for me. So this was a breakthru in a sense. Granted the miles were not all that fast. But they were miles! :-)

First 20 with Ry (with Shelbey running 15-20 with us). Not sure 100% positive, but pretty certain, that having Shelby there helped Ryan to run each mile progressively faster making his last five miles the fastest of the whole 20! Shelbey is only 24 and I am pretty sure that there is something mesmorizing about a fit woman in her 20s with a pony tail swinging back and forth right in front of a man that makes them go faster! I'm certain it's the power of the young ponytail!!! I have heard numerous men talk about it! It cracks me up!!!! Needless to say, it was AWESOME seeing Ryan push faster and faster at the end of a long run!

Mile 21 by my lonesome while Livvy hurried up and got her running clothes on waiting for me to finish that mile.

Mile 22 and 22.5 with Livvy. Nice and easy as we studied her vocabulary words and talked about how her and her friend rescued some stranded little froggy yesterday! So stinkin' cute! LOVED EVERY SECOND!!!!

Happy day! :-)

4 MP miles by myself (needed to be alone with my thoughts). Felt way too hard. I don't know who will read this but the last couple of days (and presently, writing as if I were writing the day of this entry) have been really hard for me. If you are familiar with southern Utah you may know that Hurricane, Utah (where I work) is in close proximity to Hilldale and Colorado City, where the recent flooding resulted in the death of 3 women and 9 children in the FLDS community. I'm sure everyone has their own opinions regarding that community. Although I do not agree with their religious beliefs I do love many of the women in that community with whom I have formed strong bonds. The clinic I am at is one of the closest medical facilities to that community and I have "polygamous" patients daily. My heart hurts so badly right now. I was certainly dehydrated when I ran this morning, but also, my heart just wasn't in it.

So this race report is a long time coming. :-)

I had no idea what to expect going into this race. I definitely had the training miles in but ... I rarely rarely rarely pushed the pace. This training season was all about enjoying myself and relishing in all of the miles with Ry, Smo and Shelbey. I had SO much fun this training season. The most fun I have had running in a long time. Running rarely (if ever) felt like a chore as I had such great company and was NEVER in pain. Not one single niggle!!!!

Since I became a full time physical therapist (18 months ago) I watched my marathon times get slower slower and slower. I absolutely LOVE my job but I am no where near mastering the whole full time job while being a mom and running to my potential thing. I know many of you do it, and do it well, but I am still learning! :-) Hence I went from consistently running in the 3:20s to:

Boston 2014 3:38:03

SGM 2014 3:31:08

Boston 2015 3:42:16

And don't get me wrong, it's not like I wasn't trying during those marathons, things were just not falling in line.

So needless to say, even though I was secretly hoping for a sub 3:25 this year at SGM (crossing my fingers that since I had zero pain that maybe just maybe I would sneak it in there) I can in no way be disappointed with a 3:30:04. Albeit I really wished I would have pushed 5 seconds harder at some point! ;-)

It's my best time in two years (SGM 2013 was a 3:25:42) and I had SO MUCH FUN training for it!

Side thought:

I think if I really want to hit one more marathon PR in my lifetime (my marathon PR is 3:23:50) that I am going to have to talk myself into running some 5Ks, 10Ks, and halfs. I have not done any of those distances in two years which may be one of the other reasons for those slower marathon times above. As well as my age, of course. ;-)

Also, and is the norm for me: Started too fast but loved running with Becky! Paid for it the last 10 miles, as previously mentioned that is my usual mode of operation! HA! :-)

Time to make some goals. Going back and forth on another XTERRA!

Peace out!

SO SO SO SO SO SO SO MUCH FUN!!!

Our first lighted Christmas Eve run courtesy of Lowell!!!! The entire family (Ry, Rylee, Payton, Sophia, Sherm and Liv and I) went to Lowell's house at 6:15 a.m. Lowell dressed us all up in a minimum of 3 strings of battery operated Christmas lights, blinking flashing lights for our hats, lighted up wristbands and shoe clips, etc. It was CRAZY!!! It took us 45 minutes to get lit up! Then, while it was still dark we ran outside and sang and giggled!!! Afterwards we went to Crackel Barrel for breakfast. One of the funniest Christmas Eve mornings ever!!!! My kids are still talking about it one week later!

Thank you, Lowell! And Merry Christmas to all! :-)

10 I want to poke my eyes out TM miles at VASA!!!! Smo wanted to shoot hoops at the gym so I tagged along! The reward I got for persevering through those dreadful miles was watching her hoop it up afterwards. Totally worth it! :-)
