18 miles - AP:8:48

I was so so so so lucky to have Kelli with me today. Without her, there would have been NO STINKIN' WAY that I could have finished 18 miles. In fact, during the run I had my fingers crossed that she would say something like, "Hey, let's just do 10 or 12 miles today." But nope -- she is far too diehard for that!!! The plan was to take it nice and easy, but sadly, it never felt easy to me, it was comfortably hard the whole 18 miles. Does that make sense?

Okay this is what I learned about Kelli on the run -- actually I already knew these things but they are now more fully tatooed in my mind:

1. Kelli truly is the HILL QUEEN. Try as I might, I just could not keep up with her on Puke Hill which we ran at our 16 mile mark. That girl runs hills like no other. Amazing!!!!

2. Kelli really really really does NOT drink ANYTHING on an 18 miler!!! WHAT IN THE WORLD???? Seriously, how is that possible??? Here I am with my four fuel bottles filled to the max, and she would not take one single sip. Physiologically -- is that possible???? I guess so ... I just don't know how!

3. Like me, when the last handful of miles shows up on a long run Kelli just wants to get them over. It was so funny! We had been chatting away the whole time until the end. Then we just wanted to be done. Our last 9 miles were much faster than our first 9 miles.

Anyway ... THANK YOU KELLI!!!! I needed you badly today. You amaze me!!!

** On a side note, it was fun to run into Mark (huans32) on the trail. :)

Happy Saturday!!! Where's my food????  :)

What I've learned about Kelli: She is an amazing friend and a CRAZY runner just like Teena!! :)

Glad you ladies had each other to keep you company. Running is such a social sport for me, sometimes solitary runs are nice, but most of the time I prefer to have someone there. You both did a GREAT job on the run and simply amaze me!!

Sounds like you two had a great run! Good job to both of you.

Teena, you are funny! I was only running 12 or so today until we met up, I never would have done it either!!! If you had said 12, I would have been thrilled! Funny. Good thing we went together and got it done and over with.

I realized after I talked to you on the phone that when we crossed half way on 7200 south and got stuck in the median, I did not stop my garmin. SO, you are right, that last mile was probably like and 8:10 or less. I could barely keep up with after puke hill. I can run a hill, just do not expect me to be able to run AFTER the hill. I push too hard to get it over with. AND, you right behind me, I could hear your feet.

Since I have gotten home, I have not only had my massive tuna fish sandwich, I have downed almost 80 ounces of liquid. So do not worry about me. Drinking on the run makes me ill, but I make up for it after.

Lastly, you will be proud to know that I DID NOT stop for a cookie (I was too cold). So, aside from Boston Baked Beans for breakfast, I have had a good eating day!

Have a great rest of the day. Hope you won the last game to make for a perfect day. Enjoy the night, I know tomorrow is not gonna be fun so make up for it now!!!! We need to go out for Italian again SOON.

WooHoo!!! It puts a smile on my face to picture the two of run running and race up Puke hill! Yep, Kelli doesn't drink a drop on her run. I swear she's a camel in another world. The amazing thing is she can run whatever pace and makes you feel like a million buck for running with her. SO GLAD you two had a fantastic run together!!! I'm sooo jealous!!!

You guys are amazing. Very nice run, and week Teena. This makes me realize how far I need to go to get where I want to be. Thanks for the inspiration. :)

Great run Teena. Its just a long FUN run. Not supposed to overdo it. Even if it occasionally feels not easy. I think you ran well and your stories put a smile on my face. Happy day!!

Die hard Teena & Kelli together ! Wow, that must be awesome ! What a great workout ...

From MarcE on Mon, Feb 01, 2010 at 21:16:07 from 206.225.68.57

Great for you two! Kelli -- you really need to learn to drink on the training runs. What works for 18 won't get you to 26...but you're a veteran, and you already know that. :) It's fun to run with friends! Are you two sticking together in Boston?

From Kelli on Mon, Feb 01, 2010 at 22:25:53 from 71.219.89.82

Marc, now worries! I drink when it warms up. I just am not thirsty in the winter while running, I drink a ton before and a ton after. Drinking has always been hard for me, but I have finally trained myself to do it.
