lowerbody strength training: concentrated on hip abductors, hamstrings, and glutes.

** Toying with the idea of finishing this training cycle using Pftiz's 70/18 plan (starting with week 7). Can't decide, it seems like it might be a little much for me but thought I'd give it a shot for a couple of weeks. Am I playing with fire? I really don't know. It might be beneficial for me to follow a strict program because it will be an incentive to run the right paces at the right times (intead of too much or too little, which is often my m.o.). Hmmmm ... I just don't know.

** A bit later: Yeah, the more I think about it the more I think that schedule would be too much for me. Sigh. Perhaps I will follow it's guidelines but reduce the mileage by about 10-15%. One 70 mile week and I let my bloated ego get the best of me. Oh well ... at least I have come to my senses before I did any damage. :)

Only YOU know what is best for you. I'm sure you will make the right decision! Like you said, take the plan and modify the mileage for you, but keep the workouts. Sounds like a perfect fit!

I used the 70/18 last year and it was tough! But over the course of the year I found that the 55/18 was not quite enough. I have done some modification to the Pfitz program! It morphed into a 60/12 schedule. With my bummed knee, a bout of bronchitis, the wintry weather and general life stresses, I have to be very flexible and take it a day at a time depending on how the body feels and adjust the workout accordingly. The only thing I was very consistent with is my long run! It is good to have a framework and consistency is the key!

Your training has been very solid! Your body is handling the 70 mpw fine. However it was accomplished during Spring Break when you didn't have school and kids to take care of. I am not saying that you can't do that with school and busy family life...you can...like many who do two a days, getting up super early, forgoing xtrain etc.

Anyway, sorry for rambling! So I think you are on the right path, make your own plan for the next 7 weeks, and you're well on your way to a GREAT Ogden Marathon!

I do not want to be stressed to the max trying to adhere to a program that very well may be beyond my level and means. It is very likely that it would have an adverse effect on the other things in my life that are far more important. Thank you for being the voice of reason.

I like Smooth's comment. . . I LOVE high mileage myself, if I had all the time in the world I'd run 2 r 3 times a day and sleep and eat the rest, but reality puts us back to what's doable considering our circumstances. Plus I love my family more than running!

I think you are a very smart and a supa strong runner. You have a GREAT base so I like your 'blended' idea, do what you can and then it will be like BONUs miles when you can hit it, but it won't stress you out that you are missing them if not. I agree, I think there's a lot to be said about listening to your body :)

You might consider using Pftiz's 70/18 plan from the start and not jumping into the thick of it. Maybe for St. George or???? By the way, what are your goals for Ogden?
