LOVE Boston -- LOVE the course -- LOVED being able to start with Lark (a new friend, who is so incredible)!!!! :D :D :D

Part One (first 5K):

Started WAY WAY WAY too fast!!! BUT ... my reasoning was good (or so I tell myself). Lark and I were literally at the start line of the second wave. I have NEVER had the opportunity to lead a race, and knew that I would likely NEVER have the opportunity to do so again. BUT ... here we were ... it was BOSTON and I had the chance!!! Took off way fast (for me) and stuck with a group of 5 that was leading the way!!! Was able to stay right behind the motorcade for quite some time. Knew I would pay for it later but I was just so excited to be running after taking 3 weeks off and in the BOSTON MARATHON ... just couldn't pass this up (plus, I didn't even know if I was going to finish, so I was going to grab this memory). Decided I would find my pace after the 5K mark!!! :D :D :D

Part Two (miles 4 - 17):

Found my pace, right under 8 minute miles. Thought for sure I could run a sub 3:30. Had a HUGE grin on my face most of the time. Leg was painful, but it was doing better than I had expected. My stomach was acting up, probably had WAY too many pain meds in me (I won't even admit to how many) but I was able to keep the bulk of the miles right where I wanted them. I was one happy girl!

Part Three (the demise):

Things started really going south!!! STINK!!! Nothing was responding. I could not run relaxed and I thought that if I took any more pain meds that all heck might break loose. Tried to keep it going, but could not. Began throwing up in my mouth and swallowing it. Leg felt like it was going to bust open. Felt the consequences of starting out way too fast and not running for 3 weeks. STINK!!! It was getting EXTREMELY ugly. I was far too cocky the preceding miles and I was paying for it now. Watched my average pace go down down down down down. Dug as deep as I could but got no response!!! Tried to concentrate on the amazing aspects of running Boston but really just wanted to lay down in the middle of the street.

Sadly … my Boston Marathon pace ended up being slower than my long training runs!!! BUT … I ran it!!! I finished!!! And I gave it ALL I had!!! (And I have two cool jackets.)

Part Four (the aftermath):

My leg looked like it belonged on a Cabbage Patch doll for a couple of days! My cute hubby had to take me to all of my classes and pick me up because I could not walk. (HOWEVER, today it is starting to really improve.) The Ogden marathon by necessity has to be out. But would I do it again??? Yeah, I think so!!!

A special thanks to all of my friends for making Boston AWESOME!!!! Being part of such an amazing race is something I will NEVER forget!!!!

I love you guys!!!

My other Ry and me :)

So much fun with my SSF and the girls :)

Kelli and Scott Rock!!! :)

Just in case ANYONE is wondering, that is a BIG OLE ice cream cone in my hand!!!

Teena, I am so glad we were there together and that we HAD FUN!!!! Forget the race, it was a great vacation!!!

Now, take care of that leg, take some serious recovery time, skip a few marathons, and let's go do it again next year!

Let St George be your race. you have an awesome race in you, I know it and I can feel it!

From Bec on Fri, Apr 23, 2010 at 18:03:53 from 76.23.55.210

TEENA!!! I loved reading your race report. I got chills when I read about your first 5k. What an experience! Boston is a place where the joy of accomplishing life-long goals comes into play. Even if your race did not go as planned you experienced one of the most prestigious races in the world, I am proud of you. Happy running and get better.

From Burt on Fri, Apr 23, 2010 at 18:06:08 from 206.19.214.144

How cool! You made the right choice with starting out fast. Heck, you're already in Boston. No need to qualify again, right?

I will say that I don't feel sorry for all the pain you went through because I have, too. And I especially don't feel sorry that you crashed hard, because you still ran 45 minutes faster than my best. So no sympathy from me! But you're still wicked cool.

From Teena Marie on Fri, Apr 23, 2010 at 18:09:31 from 174.52.45.85

Kelli -- I just love you!!!

Bec -- Thanks!! It was AWESOME!!!

Burt -- But I did re-qualify!!!! :)

From Burt on Fri, Apr 23, 2010 at 18:11:57 from 206.19.214.144

I know. I'm just sayin'. :P

Oh Burt -- you are a riot!!! :)

From RAD on Fri, Apr 23, 2010 at 18:14:42 from 67.172.229.125

Teena, You are simply amazing! I knew you'd pull out a race like that even with throwing up in your mouth and wanting to die and having 'cabbage patch legs' days afterward!!

I'm sure you were curing everything those last 10 miles, but seriously - look what you did!?! Requalify with feeling that way and in pain! Simple folk like me can only imagine the wonderment of qualifying let alone under those circumstances - especially with all the craziness you went through the few weeks before.

I'm with Kelli - get that leg under control then bust it out at SGM!!! You've got a 3:20 or less in you, we just need that hip/leg/pelivs to cooperate with you. You are amazing, and totally deserved every second of that 'lead pack' feeling!! I'm glad you got that experience, you earned it!

From Scott Wesemann on Fri, Apr 23, 2010 at 18:16:13 from 66.239.250.209

You made it! That is soooo cool. Congrats, it sounds like you had an amazing experience.

From Kelli on Fri, Apr 23, 2010 at 18:26:50 from 71.219.75.178

I LOVE YOU, TOO!!! But, I may love Ryan more since he bought me the ice cream.

From Teena Marie on Fri, Apr 23, 2010 at 18:47:14 from 174.52.45.85

Thanks Rachel and Scott!!!

Kel -- You do realize that I am the one that put Ry through Law School, right? Without me there would have been no icecream cone for you!!!! :)

From Kim on Fri, Apr 23, 2010 at 18:51:00 from 67.199.180.90

Wow! That was worth waiting for! I'm glad you did it! TEENA ROCKS!

OK, thanks for the ice cream Teena!!!!

Great job Teena! I know it didn't go down as good as you wanted but I'm glad it was a memorable experience for you. You did an awesome job and once you recover, you will be better than ever!

From Maynard on Sat, Apr 24, 2010 at 19:12:27 from 71.213.42.198

Congrats on the Boston finish Teena. Sorry about your struggles, but I think everyone knew going in it wouldn't be all that easy. Still--when I saw your finish time, I honestly figured you had had a near perfect day.

'Rise up this morning

Smiled with the rising sun

Singin' sweet songs of melodies pure and true

Sayin', "This is my message to you-u-u"

Singin'...

'Cause ev'ry little thing gonna be al-right"

From Snoqualmie Ridge Runner on Sat, Apr 24, 2010 at 20:54:39 from 24.16.49.114

Excellent! You are a lot braver than most of us pushing it like that up front! Great write up! Now knock off the running for a bit and get healed up...

From MarcE on Sat, Apr 24, 2010 at 23:16:34 from 206.225.68.187

Teena -- Thanks for posting the pictures. I was 1 second behind you at the 5K! That must have been where I tapped you on the shoulder and asked "What are you doing!!!?" :) You had quite the experience..and ran YOUR race. I'm proud of you for finishing what you started and BQing again. Like Kelli said...skip a few marathons and aim for a PR at SGM...I know you won't listen...but it was worth a shot. :)

So girl friend hows the recovery rest period coming along? Hey, where's that cigar I trusted you to carry over the finish line at Boston?

From MarcE on Sun, Apr 25, 2010 at 19:34:22 from 206.225.68.187

Slick - Teena couldn't find anywhere to carry the cigar -- so she gave it to me and Ronnie. I carried it across the finish line for you. If I don't smoke it before UVM, I'll bring it there! :)

From KP on Sun, Apr 25, 2010 at 19:41:19 from 98.67.175.149

Awesome race, TM! I tracked you online and was continually amazed at your amazing pace when I refreshed my page. You did much better than I expected. I'm so happy for you!

P.S. Love the pic of you and your other Ry :)

From JulieC on Mon, Apr 26, 2010 at 19:05:50 from 71.219.45.70

All that worry and look at you....YOU RAN A GREAT RACE GIRL!!! Congrats!! HOPE YOU ARE RECOVERING WELL?

From Brent on Mon, Apr 26, 2010 at 23:26:41 from 168.178.30.194

T NA NA - you crazy fun runner - go out like a bat out of heck and hang on - any TV footage of you at the front? Kool, glad you had crazy fun, memory of a life time of running. I smiled, then felt your pain - get healthy, the next crazy fun run is out there waiting.

500 commando point for running so hard you puked - minus 500 for not puking on someone - plus 500 for being in the front pack - plus 500 for suffering it out to the finish - minus 500 for not kissing the girls at Wellsly (take those negative points back, thats a guy thing) guts and some glory for a hell of a story.

How are you feeling???

From Teena Marie on Tue, Apr 27, 2010 at 22:09:54 from 174.52.45.85

Kim -- my dear, YOU ROCK!!! :)

Vinh and Crocket -- Thanks so much! You have no idea how much your encouraging words help me when I am feeling a little down. :)

Andy -- Thanks!!! Those first few miles did feel amazing!!! (Can't say that about the last few though. ;) )

Dale -- There's a club for that??? Who knew!!! :)

Toby -- You are always so nice!! I'm glad that your ankle feels great in the boot. Have a wonderful pool run tomorrow.

Marion -- My leg was pretty swollen for a couple of days but it is REALLY starting to improve. :)

Allie -- That means you saw me crash and burn!!!! :) It was an experience that I wouldn't give up for anything though. :)

Bradley -- No worries ... about a thing!! :)

Jefferey -- Sounds like a very smart plan!

Artichoke -- Thanks!!! :) It was a lot of fun (mostly). :)

Amy -- YOU HAVE GOT TO RUN THIS RACE!!!! Can't wait until you do!! :) Both Rys are AWESOME!!! :)

Slick -- The healing is coming!!! :) Two problems with the cigar ... I freaked out about not being able to finish the race (and hence break a cigar tradition) AND I couldn't fit it in my training bra!!! ;) I tried to wear it on my neck but I couldn't get comfortable with it. Marc and Ronnie said they'd make sure it would cross the finish line per plan! :)

KP -- Thanks a million! I am so glad I went. :)

Julie -- Thank you!!! The recovery is coming along! :)

Brent -- So I still finished with 500 commando points, right??? :)

Kelli -- I am reallly starting to feel better. My overall fitness has gone way down, but I hope that once my body feels better that I will be able to pick it back up. :)

Glad you are feeling better. I am sure your fitness is not as LOST as you think, you will get back at it soon and will bounce right back. Just stay focused on feeling better!!!!

From KP on Sun, May 02, 2010 at 00:12:15 from 98.81.0.12

how are you feeling? recovered?

what has the doc said? how long are you going to take off?

UPDATE US PLEASE!

From Teena Marie on Sun, May 02, 2010 at 18:40:33 from 174.52.45.85

Thanks Maurine!!! :)

KP -- I am actually healing really well. :) I ran a little bit this week with not much pain at all. The anterior compartment seems to be under control. In fact, although it might be crazy, I am seriously considering running the Ogden Marathon on the 15th. Yes, it will be much slower than I would like, since my fitness and speed have greatly decreased, but it could be fun! :) Once I get finals out of the way (last one is late this Thursday) I will start blogging again. Just super crazy right now. You know how that goes. :)

Thanks for checking in on me. :) :) :)

From Smooth on Sun, May 02, 2010 at 18:43:40 from 174.23.172.155

Hey SSF! GOOD LUCK on the last finals! You will do great! I'm so proud of you studying soooo hard! Glad your ACS is under control. My calves are swollen and tender to touch. It was very foolish of me to run stairs. I hope they heal in time for Ogden! I LOVE YOU and MISS YOU SOOO MUCH!

From Lyman on Wed, May 05, 2010 at 12:18:38 from 170.135.241.46

Great race. You are tough as nails (and little gross with that vomiting-in-your-mouth thing).

From Tom Slick on Wed, May 05, 2010 at 12:48:10 from 168.179.157.104

Well T Na Na, don't you think it's time to bring everybody up to date on your recovery and plans for the future...

From KP on Fri, May 07, 2010 at 14:39:25 from 65.208.22.26

How are finals going?? I've got 3 down, 1 more to go! I hope your running is going well and you are studying hard. How many semesters do you have left? Miss your updates...
