It's Monday, All. Here we go. :)

I don't want to forget what I felt/experienced today, so here it is in writing:

Today we had time with a few gentlemen who had lower extremity amputations. One particular gentleman was a marine who had his tibia literally split down the middle by an IED two years ago in Afghanistan. Since then he has had multiple surgeries trying to repair and save the leg. He was at the point where he could walk, but was in constant pain. This incredible man who is married with three young children had been active all of his life and had a passion of running. When he said this I lost it (literally, I could not hold back the tears): "For many of you this will be hard to understand, but I am a runner. Before this happened to me I would faithfully run 12 miles three days a week. It became obvious that I would never be able to run again on this leg even with all of the surgeries. Neither would I be able to go hiking with my kids or chase them around the yard. That is why, after much convincing, I talked my surgeon into removing it." This gentleman had a below the knee amputation on October 4th this year. His emotions and pain were all still very raw. He now looks forward to getting his prosthetic in a few weeks. He will then have to relearn how to walk and gain enough strength, stamina, coordination and integumentary integrity in his residual limb to withstand the impact of running (which he will also have to reteach himself how to do, on yet, another prosthetic).

This gentleman inspired me on multiple levels. It was a class that I will never forget.

6.18 AWESOME miles with Fly and Julia on the trails in CCC. Up to TPF saddle and back. I say up, because it was definitely up. Funny thing is when I guessed how much climbing we had done in those first 3.09 miles I guessed about 800. I was only a tad off. According to Julia's watch (I ran garminless) we climbed 1547 feet. Sad thing is when I made my guess Fly told Julia, "Don't listen to her ... she has no idea when it comes to measuring distance on a run!!!" I couldn't stop laughing when I read Julia's email giving me our stats for the day. FUNNY!

Thanks for the run Fly and Julia. LOVED it! :)
